I have two Toulouse geese which have been setting for over a week. We live on a coastal creek and tonight the nests are underwater due to tide. Is there any chance these will survive? If so, can I move the nests if the girls go back to them tomorrow to protect them from further flooding?

So the eggs were in the water? For more than 5 mminutes? They most likely have died. I had a goose nest washed out by flood water. The eggs didn´t actually stay in the water, but they still died. Water chills them very quickly, of course. You can try moving the nests to see if they´ll use them, maybe to lay another clutch, but it´s usually difficult to shift geese.

It was over an hour, and the tides will be at least that high for another 3 nights. Very sad situation. These are one year olds and I don't want to disturb them since it is there first go at it. Will they be prone to laying in the same location once established in future years?

Geese tend to like the same spot, so it´d be good to make it either less attractive there, or make somewhere else more attractive. Of course, geese in their natural environment will nest in marshes, so she´s only doing what´s natural. Some geese, however, like to nest up high on a littel hillock, so I don´t know if you could get her interested in a nice quiet little spot that´s up a bit, with lots of grass etc around for her to hide in? If you move her, she may well nest again this year, you never know.
One of my geese always tries to nest right near the stream, where the flood water comes through, and I´ve managed to get her to nest just a little distance away by putting a tyre down with lots of hay in there. I put it up in the grassy bank, and she was quite happy there and safe.

Well then seems I should try to move them, I need to start thinking like a goose and pick the perfect spot. How did you convince your lady to take up the new location? Thanks for the advise.

I put everything as close to her old nest as possible, but made it all nice and nesty, and each day I moved it a bit further away (in a tyre, it was easy to shift) until it was in a safe place. I used as much of her original nesting material as possible so she had her smell on it. (I´m sure they use their sense of smell, they can track me through tall grass!) Some folks find it easy to move their goose by blocking the old site and making a nice new nest with the old material in the desired place, some geese will accept it readily. Hope all goes well for you.
