netting over the top of run

I got bird netting to cover the top of my rn. The sides will be quite high, 7', so i figured the top needed to be covered mainly to keep hawks out and keep birds in. I'ld rather not pay out for hardware cloth for the top,the run is already really big

Thinnk the netting will work?

I have fingerling seine netting I salvaged from a fish farm. Its very heavy to work with and I have to add support to the side of the pen. But I have to say it works great.

I've thought of using it, My question is How does it hold up to Coons and other preditors?

We used the plastic chicken wire, secured it to the pen wire with plastic electrical ties and propped the netting up with thin boards (about 4 in wide with a piece of carpeting on the top so's not to poke a hole in the netting) in a couple places.So far it's worked great! We have quite a bit of snow here and the boards help the netting to stay up high even in the heaviest ice storms altho it does sag some it has always gone back up.We are thinking about a few more support board for next winter tho as a precaution.We've had all kinds of hawks and eagles soaring overhead but, no problems yet from any predators flying or on the ground thank God!

I use deer netting (similar to the bird netting you get at Lowes or other home improvement store).

It's lightweight plastic type material, and is hardly visible from a distance.

I have seen hawks fly into it and bounce off, and it works well to keep the chickens IN.

One caveat - I used PVC pipes to make arcs to hold up the netting, which would NOT work if you are in a high snow/ice locale.

We did have one ice storm since I put up the cover, and it pulled the netting down to the ground in one place, but I just shook off the ice and it popped right back up.

I too use deer netting but dont have to worry about snow. Seems to work fine for me and I dont believe a coon would try to walk on it if he got up there. Its 7' up.

Deer neeting her also. I have had the same netting on my run for 6 years now. It goes down over the sides of the fence and I used lite wire and basically sowed the netting to the fence. No wholes and nothing has gotten in and nothing has gotten out. I also used some heavy wire across the top, pulled tightly to support the deer netting.

As arlee453 said, snow and ice can be an issue. But I have been fortunate that when it builds up, I clean it off and the netting bounces right back.

I thought about using it my self.
