Netting to cover top of chicken run

That stuff is indestructible.

Here's our situation - we have 200' of electric poultry netting (two adjoining rolls of 100' each). Works fantastic to keep out raccoons, coyotes, dogs, possums ... everything. Except hawks, which never bothered our girls until we had 2 feet of snow and the predators couldn't get to thier normal meals of squirrels, mice, moles, etc., and so forth. Right now, we have our four hens housed on our back porch (covered and screened) which is working, but isn't ideal for them or us. I had been thinking of making their outside enclosure smaller (using just one 100' roll of the netting) and somehow covering it to discourage the hawks, but I've been boggled on how to do that. So, I'm intrigued by your baling twine setup. I have enough baling twine to choke a horse (pun intended). Do you have pictures you could post? How much did you need to put up before the hawks gave up on it?

Here's a picture of what our outside coop is like with the poultry netting. We don't want to put up anything "permanent" for zoning reasons... so something we can move around would be ideal.

Thanks in advance!

Here's their coop and netting...

And here are their current winter digs (yes, that's looking right into the house...)

I know this was a long time ago, but, are you related to me?

I bought a 25 x 50 1" net, double knotted, from 3t netting(about $125). Cant remember the exact name just look up poultry netting on google and 3t netting should show up. I bought a 25 x 25($60) last year and it has held up and works great. In a 16 x 16 run I put an old telephone pole in the middle and draped the netting over and zip tied it to the fence. It left me enough room to walk under without hitting my head.

Thank you for the info!

My netting always collapses under heavy snow. I'm going to build a pergola over the run & am thinking of replacing the netting with trellis slats.

I have read that the 2" netting is better for snow. I bought a 25' x 25' of extra heavy duty netting for $48 shipped on ebay. I put two posts in the run and ran 8 gauge monofilament to support it. That was 7 cents a foot from Kencove Farm Fence supplies (+$6 for shipping so $15 total because I got extra just in case). In summer I plan to fasten some pieces of shade cloth to the netting. I originally planned to cover the run with various % of shade cloth but I would have to take it down during snow and strong winds and leave them vulnerable.

I've used the lightweight "bird netting" or "deer netting" from Lowe's before but on my latest coop, we went all out and put up chickenwire....it's lasted longer....
How high did you put the netting? You could stand straight under it? Was it just flat over the top? If not how did you hang it? I am wondering how to use the netting or chicken wire over the top of my chicken run and need to be able to stand straight and move around under it.
Thanks
