Neurological problems in a silkie?

My silkie did this all the time. When I looked real close at both eyes I saw a hair feather curl that was touching his eye ball. I cut it off and he was good to go.

I'm so glad I found this thread! I just noticed this morning that one of my 4 week old Silkies was sort of "ticking" its head, slowly from side tside. I watched it for a minute and it seemed to regain its equilibrium, and then I saw it shake its head normally, then do the same slower ticking head shake for a couple of times afterwards. I too thought it was neurological, and I suppose it still could be, but it also sounds just like what you all are describing, so Im not quite as worried now.

We adopted silkies that are about a year old and noticed the subtle twitch in one when we brought her home. Went out this morning and poor girl is twitching a storm, seems to be having balance issues, won't stay out of her house and doesn't want treats. Was so Affraid I did something horribly wrong by her but now I'm feeling this is not such an urgent life threatening issue. Lots more tlc! Where did you get your vitamins, anyone? Thank you!

I'm so relieved to have found this thread; we have a 2 month old silkie that is exhibiting this same strange wobbly, vertigo, dizzy head twitching and of course I assumed the worst - that it was a fatal disease of some sort. I'm glad to hear this is a common Silkie tic and that it isn't life threatening!

I too experienced a goofy silkie, she had the domed skull, I dislike that individual chickens need to suffer for a particular trait, but it seems to be what people do.

I had one silkie that got "wry neck" when she was about 4 weeks old she would duck her head between her legs and walk backwards until she bumped into something would somersault stand up and be fine, but this would continue to happen every five minutes all day long. Being a nurse and doing some research silkies are prone to this problem and i looked online and found a vitamin cocktail to give her and after about a month of giving it to her twice a day through a very soft flexible syringe the problem is gone and hasn't come back. It was a mix of vitamin B, selenium, mobic, and we would mix a very small amount morning and night with a little bit of water and unfortunately open her beak stick the flexible syringe in (not at all down her throat just to make sure she got the vitamins in her mouth) and squirt the syringe in. This most definitely saved my beautiful baby silkies life and now she is good as new and you would never know. There are plenty of articles to find the exact "vitamin cocktail" for wry neck but it is common in silkies and worked so well for my little one. Worth a try!!
