Neurological Symptoms? Cross Legged WalkingShe

Oh and I bought some baby chicken food and mixed it half and half with her regular and left that in for free choice. And she has been “smacking her beak” making a clicking noise over and over.

Update: today no improvement. She is doing something strange with her eyes closing them and rolling back in her head. Today also started trembling. And there is a gurgling sound coming from her abdomen. She had a normal stool today and I added apple cider vinegar to her water and have been dipping her beak in to to try to get her to drink but she won’t drink voluntarily. I’m afraid to force her too much since her pin feathers are so painful and don’t want any of them to break. Her voice sounds funny.. like she is a smoker or something. Kind of hoarse sounding and quiet and muffled.

She has a heater in her room and it’s about seventy five degrees in there and she continues to smack her beak.

I just thought I’d post in case anyone else was looking at something similar: my girl made a perfect recovery. We ended up doing mainly supportive care and had to tube feed her for a couple days but she did recover which I honestly did not expect after reading many of the other similar cases. She is back out with the flock and doing great.

A little over a week to start improving. I think it was about two weeks total until she was finally back with the family outside. She got worse before she got better and it was a long illness. I really think the vitamins and increased protein and electrolytes were what did it. After a couple days of tube feeding she started eating only oatmeal and scrambled egg but from there things looked up. She did have antibiotics from the vet too but I’m still not convinced it was an infection. At times she seemed like it was a type of seizure activity. I searched everywhere for what she could have gotten into and never found anything. The other hens never showed symptoms (hopefully it stays that way) and I would say that she is 100% normal now.

Our dog recently exhibited significant neurological symptoms and recovered. The vet thought she ingested mold. I now have activated charcoal on hand in case she or one of the chickens gets into something like that again. (There are mushrooms here when it’s wet. Thankfully we’re in a ry spell.)

Huh, I wonder if that could have been it. Would make sense. It rains a ton here so even though I didn’t see mold it’s possible and we do get mushrooms too but I don’t know what kind they are. I’ll have to get some charcoal in case it happens again.
