Kim those Lavender eggs are soo cool!!! I would not mind keeping some over here to preserve the flock.I am running to Karen's again later in the week to pick up more yokos for the Easter hatch. I will have to rush even more than last time though so no time to visit. Darn this weather! It's really being inconvenient lately. We need it though so I can't complain too loudly! Who laid that beautiful aqua egg on the upper right of your pic?![]()

Man I am gonna be selling a lot of eggs once these girls start laying. I better line up a few more egg hungry folks for all these eggs! They make for a gorgeous carton of eggs though and my customers just love that!

Hahahahaha! I feel exactly the same way!
Yes, purple eggs would be pretty epic. :] I love the color. Kim, if they start laying purple regularly, and you wish to sell, you have a buyer here!! I'm pretty much obsessed with cool egg colors, I've got the green fromm my EEs, the browns and whites, and the speckled from the hatchery Marans. I have some soon-to-be new colors from Candy's Ameracaunas (hoping for blue!!) I'm on the list to invest in some of Sunny's beauties when she sells, and I sooo want to track down that duck breed that lays black eggs.Just a little color obsessed, lol.![]()
Man, this was one rough weekend, I'm so glad its over. Do any of you ever feel the same?
Sunny, where are you going?
Heading to Turlock for more yokohama eggs to set for the Easter hatch.
Sheryl, I made your cream puffs recipe, but gluten-free. They didn't puff up nearly as high, and had to be baked in muffin tins. But the kids are really enjoying them, and they weren't too difficult.
I used to make these for DS's girlfriend (ex now) that had celiac(s?) disease. I used rice flour and added a little bit of xanthum gum with an extra egg yolk and they were even better than the ones made with wheat flour! I made a lot of stuff for her. I was surprised how well the xanthum gum works when replacing gluten to bind and thicken stuff. I tried a variety of flours too instead of the wheat. Most recipes translate very well to gluten free. Some flours need to be ground at home though. Too hard to find them in the stores.

NOOOO we can't take that chance! Bring them over here!!! hee hee
So, how many chickens does everyone currently have in their possession?
I have 10 hens/pullets, and 22 chicks. I'm guessing I'll end up keeping 5 or 6 of the chicks, after splitting them with Lacey and culling roos.
Ummmm, a lot. Wait only 54. Why does it feel like I have a lot more? Oh cause I have more coming that's why!![]()
Oh she is beautiful! The lighter chick is starting to get feathers in on the wing tips and a few are very light, almost white but all the rest are very dark gray.
I love green, blue, turquoise, olive... so I don't care what the mix is, it will be interesting to see what color of eggs they'll produce when they start to lay. I love a variety of colors in the egg "basket" so a mix is what I'm looking for.
Am I terrible that I think feathered shanks on an Am would be adorable?Course I don't show so I don't care about SOP. I just love all the cuteness!![]()
The Marans can be very hard to tell boy from girl when they are young especially by comb size alone. They are a more regal bird so they have a "stance" that looks rooish even in the females. Plus they have really big combs compared to many breeds. The way the tail feathers look when they first start to come in is a dead giveaway though. If I don't mark them at this early stage though I get confused later. The tail difference isn't as well defined when they are a little older.
Of course by 2 months or so they really look different again. Except for that one pullet Aubrey had which Genny thought was a roo and I thought was a girl (sorry Genny is almost always right on gender so I have to remind folks that I was right on this one bird hahaha) they are almost always really obvious by three months for sure. It was the huge comb and wattles that threw Genny off so keep in mind the Marans just do have bigger combs and wattles.
so adorable, sheryl! glad you're able to have some chicks again. Here's the 2 babies I picked out yesterday from Candy. A BLRW & Ameraucanas. For now their names are Lacey & Amanda. Lacey is the BLRW and she hatched from a pullet's egg so she was the smallest one there. I promised Candy I would keep her updated on this little one, Candy said she almost didn't make it.
ok here they are
together
feather legs soo cute
the 3 smaller ones(BW) came from pullet eggs
the bigger ones(BBSW)
the wing and tail feathers coming in
the one with spot on its headpics stopped working
Well, that's very exciting. You'll have tons of us here in Reno begging for some of those! The 2 next to it are pink. It just doesn't show up well. I'm hoping I get some darker lavender eggs from whatever I hatch from them.
OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!How in gods green earth am i ever going to stop wanting birds when people keep doing AMAZING things like this?!?!!![]()
Right now I have 32 hens / 7 roosters (3 looking for homes) and 11 chicks ( 5 maybe 6 are roosters.) Total 60![]()
These pictures I took tonight tell it all . . Do I like taking pictures of my chickens?![]()
