Nevadans?

That's Tater. Right now she's not quite guardian... more of a buddy to all that is mine. Oh'no will come up and kiss the babies, and today I caught her trying to herd the chickens into the coop about the time the sun was setting. Tater got a spanking, though... I tossed the chickens a single tomato, and it was a game of keep-away between Original and Shawarma. Tater has never eaten tomatoes before the chickens told her they would be tasty. She went for the tomato, and Original went for her, and Tater chased her off. Didn't hurt her, just bared her teeth at her. She got disciplined for that. Not sure if she's mimicking chicken behavior in the way a dog understands? They live in the yard pretty symbiotically.

No idea what tater was doing? I haven't had anything like that happen with Mille so I'm no help there. Oh and btw I have your book and other stuff that was left in the truck, didn't see it until I got home. We were going to take it over right away but we wanted to change the brooder this time around to what we believe would be better for the chicks.

Lacey enjoys taking elevator rides, I place my hand down, palm side up and she walks up to me and hops in, then I lift her up. She loves it. She sure is friendly. Amanda is a little scared at times but she's doing much better.

looks like they'll have plenty of room in there, Missy.

well, I've been reading about golden cuckoo marans chicks and it seems that the darker ones are female and lighter ones are male. If that's true, it looks like I have one female and one male. One of mine is very black with a small white spot on the head and the other looks more gray and has more white on the head. Ones with more brownish coloring are more likely to look like golden cuckoos and more blackish colors will look more like regular cuckoos.

Yep, # 1 is a roo and the other two are girls

Good guess Seth

You won't have any trouble sexing your 6 chicks!

Ok, here are the W/BW chicks for which I'd like Candy's gender assessment (or anyone else who knows about this). Thanks!

and here are #3 and #2 from above together.

Not sure about the lavenders yet. Pretty sure the Buff x Wheaten is a cockerel.

This morning looking at the GC marans in person again, they both have more gray and white on than in the photos, so maybe I have 2 boys.

Guess i have to be patient and see.

Good Morning,
I have a plymouth rock that is sick. We have tried karo syrup, it picked up a little bit, ACV, she ate some chicken scratch. Last night after we feed her she pooped three times. We are feeding medicated feed. Anything else we can do to help this little one. She is smaller than the rest and stands and weaves. Out of 27 chickens I suppose I knew we might lose a few, but was not prepared to watch it happen. She is 2.5 weeks old. Any other idea's? Should I worry about the other 26?

If you are feeding the medicated feed, it depletes the system of vit. B12. I would stop the medicated feed (I use Purina Flockraiser for all my chickens) and add some dry ground kelp (health food store) and some Quaker quick oats to their feed. I like to use the GQF Vitamin plus powder to the water (feed stores carry it) and it does wonders to give them a boost when they aren't feeling well. Also if you are feeding scratch they need chick grit. I do add a 7 grain cereal that is finely ground (I get at the health food store) to their feed and it has made for some super healthy chicks.

Hope this helps!

Ok, I will separate her. Can I give her a tiny bit of our sublingual b12 vitamin? I will go and get some dry kelp, I think I have some 7 grain cereal, I will grind it some more. Maybe I should make a mush.

I would not separate her. Too stressful. I would change the diet for all of your chicks

I think a human vit. B12 would be too strong.

Good luck!

Ooh the quick oats will be like candy for them! My chickens all freak out when they get any kind of oats.
