Done!

Aubrey, how cool!!! I wish I had the dedication. I love fresh milk and would have a milk cow if I could handle the commitment.

She's a cutie!

Do goats need to be milked every 12 hours like cows?

It depends on how much she is producing. Some need milking once a day and some need milking twice a day. I don't think she's producing right now so I have plenty o time to get myself pumped up for it! Mark will be helping too because he really wanted the goats for cheese.

I am very nervous too. I know someone downtown who has two goats in a much smaller yard but I'm still mildly paranoid. What if she is mean to my chickens? What if the dog tries to murder her??? We have precautions set up. She will be tethered for the first few weeks so we can see how she reacts to the chooks. Tonight I moved mama and babies into the big coop so I can lock her in the kennel at night while Elvis has free reign of the backyard. I just really hope this works out. Her current owner really loves her and thinks she is as sweet as all get out.

She probably is then. It sounds like you are taking all the necessary steps you need to take.

While we're at it we can dismantle the old coop to take to Genny's house.

Also I am looking for a german shepherd puppy (maybe an older dog) or 2, so if anyone hears of any that need a good home (no I can't afford these 1,000-2,500 dollar dogs) let me know! They will be working dogs, not for show, so no championship bloodlines are necessary. Just a good old family dog.

Thanks Tyler

Sunny, have you tried a rescue?

I remember last time I went to the humane society there was a purebred German shepherd. It made me sad, she was so sweet and beautiful.

I've been looking on-line. Most of them are really far away but we will travel a ways if we need to. Yes we've always gotten our dogs from rescues. The only one's I saw on the local animal shelter pages were mixed breeds. I don't care if they are pedigreed but I love the look and temperament of a true german shepherd (well, most of them have great temperaments anyway). We actually want 2 dogs and don't care if they are both german shepherds. They just need to be good with people but good watch dogs too. All the German Shepherds I had growing up were so smart and seemed to instantly know if a person was friend or foe.

I mean come into the backyard with us and they were so loving but try to come over the fence and, watch out!!! Such pretty dogs too. I've tried a few other breeds since then but I guess I've got a soft spot in my heart now for shepherds cause nothing else seems to quite measure up.

However a black or chocolate Lab, or an Irish Wolfhound or an Australian shepherd etc... with a German shepherd would be a great fit too. As long as they get along well, of course.
