Nevadans?

Ha Ha! Of course that's the most important part! Well, it will be sage green--same color I'm currently painting our house. luckily it looks like I'll have paint left over. Oh, and white trim! I have a taupe color for our house front door and shutters. I bought a whole gallon which is probably too much so I could use that for the nest boxes and miscellaneous other things inside the coop. Probably I'll paint the interior walls with the leftover white from the house trim. DH and I love green. We have a sage green honda civic and our bedroom is also sage green. So that's the plan--that was the easiest coop decision!

I'd love a trio of those babies! Your Orps are gorgeous! Genny has the ones I got from you a few months ago. Steve and I got a job with free rent (well part of my pay) but we weren't allowed to keep the chickens so we sold them all, then the deal fell through so now we are moving to Red Rock where I can have bunches of chickens!

Have fun at Burning Man!

Aubrey I think the pygmies sound like a much better way to go! Good luck finding some cuties! I thought you were really calling it Barfly Ranch. I was thinking the same thing Ron was.

Elizabeth I think you've made the right decision on insulation! Except for a few exceptions it's really not necessary. Thanks for the good hatching wishes! My bator is a homemade cabinet style, multi shelf/turner style bator. It took some tinkering with the first couple hatches but now it runs perfectly (unless I open the bator for awhile then it takes a few hours to level out again). I love this thing!

Thanks Ron for the advice.

Don't know that I could talk DH into it but I would love a freezer full of homegrown pork!

Hi Country Hen!!! Welcome to the Nevada thread!
frow.gif
I know I already welcomed you before but that was through PMs. This is my official welcome!
lol.png
You should PM Jeeper and saym! They seem like real sweet folk and they aren't on here all the time. I'm sure they'd be tickled to have more chicken folk close by! Bloomie is also not far from you and she is a crack up!

Those breeds you mentioned are all pretty hearty birds and should do fine in your area. The only thing is Orps can get overheated in the summer so I always put out icy treats for them to snack on and give them plenty of shade and cool water. I wouldn't be without them though. They do really well in cold weather and are fantastic layers, even laying some during the coldest months! They are also very mellow birds. At least the ones I've had were.

Hey Sheryl! Thanks for the good wishes for my hatch! 2pm Saturday at Bartley Ranch sounds great! I'll let someone else sign up for ice and drinks since I will have my hands full with what I'm already bringing. See you all there!!!

The new folks know they are invited as well right?

Thanks for the invite! Due to my overly polite midwestern upbringing I needed an invite:) My husband and kids (4 year olds)and I will come. I will bring drinks and ice and some other dish. I'll have to go back and look through what others are bringing.

I'm looking forward to meeting you and your family! I wish we had our grand daughters with us, the oldest one is 4 (almost 5). That is such a great age! They will love this park.

I'm bringing fruit and green salad + ribs or pulled pork. Got to get to the store tomorrow! Pork takes over 24 hours to prep and cook.

Would anybody mind if I brought a jello salad instead of straight fruit salad? The fruit salad is very time consuming to make.

I can't remember if Bartley Ranch has BBQ grills there so instead I'm going to do tri-tip at home and bring it there for sandwiches, one of my co-worker's suggested this to me and it sound fantastic!

So far I know Elizabeth is bringing 3 altogether since 4 year olds don't eat like us adults, It's only going to be me Saturday because my DH must work really late. Sunny/Aubrey - I'm assuming Steve & Mark are coming and that would put us at 8, Ron how many are you bringing?

At this time we are at 9 until we know who's coming with Ron and everyone else that's planning on coming. Also bring your lawn chairs, blankets and such.

I'm getting really excited for Saturday!

Sheryl, thanks for the reminder to bring camp chairs! I'd have completely forgotten. Yep, DH is coming too. I'm looking forward to it too! It will be a nice break from packing.

Elizabeth thanks for the ice and drinks! It wouldn't be much of a get together without drinks!
