Nevadans?

Arlene, I'm so sorry to hear about your Del! Ke_ben knows a lot about this kind of thing but I know very little. Hopefully he or someone else can help.

We have quite a few experienced folks on here from your neck of the woods.

You're welcome ke_ben! I hope you like your nickname. As soon as you are published we will change the nickname to reflect your accomplishment!

I had an EPIC time at the fair this year. I had one of my favorite 4-H judges, my best friend to hang out with, an awesome tractor pull, great food and my rabbits did'nt do bad. The only thing that could of been better would of been to be getting ready for State Fair next.

Doesn't look like you guys where to yappy today it made catching up easy.

Sorry your girl is feeling poorly. I have little experience with eggbound hens but have read a few things. Are they getting free choice oyster shells? I ask because to produce an egg - a chicken needs more than 2x the calcium needed for the egg shell (so basically 2.5 egg shells per "fresh/new" egg). If they do not have extra calcium, their body pulls it from the bone and muscle. Low calcium makes muscles weak and often unable to "push" an egg out.

If you have any tums (ant-acid tablets) - they are high in calcium, you can crush one up, mix with water and see if she will eat or drink it.

I would feel her abdomin and then the abdomin of a pullet without problems. Is your Del's larger?

You can also soak her again, lube up your finger and gently probe around inside the vent. Inside the vent, there will be two passages - the egg passage is the "top or higher" passage.

I hope she is feeling better.................

& the Nevada thread! I'm in Reno as well and I have a neighbor whose whole family is so rude and I didn't say a word to them about my flock, I did surprise the son last month when I said hi though. What's the age of your flock and what type of chicks do you have? You'll also learn a lot from this forum and the people here too!

I was going to say - GINNY - HELP HER! But I see she did, whew! I know the poop part is bile so perhaps oatmeal and buttermilk is in order here to get her some nutrition and pro-biotics in her so she doesn't waste away?

Oh my goodness, I didn't even know I had responses...I'm so sorry. Thank you all for responding about my Sweetie Del. She's doing about the same...no real changes. I tried all the things that everyone is talking about but still she seems the same. I don't feel an egg at all but she's showing all the signs. Yes, they are lacking oyster shells too...I didn't know I was supposed to be giving them some. I feel so helpless...

I read on another post that someone gave their chicken calcium drops and their chicken layed the bound egg soon after. I tried the tums in water thing and she just turned her nose up at it. She's drinking a lot of water though. Sigh...
