Nevadans?

Thanks Sunny. Funny to think she was my age (50) when I was born. I can only dream that I share a picture like this with my youngest grandchild who was born this year, or any of them for that matter!

That would be cool! Oooo, just had deja vu, strong... Did we talk about you living to be 100 before? I swear we had this conversation before or I dreamt it.

Hmmm, I don't think so....but I've been thinking that had I known I had the "longevity" gene I may have taken better care of myself! I checked back on our PM's and there was no discussion and I don't think we've discussed it on the forum....guess I better start taking care of myself!!!!

Yes take care of that back! You're going to need it.

LOL! This conversation reminds me of a conversation between Eric Idle (Monty Python's Flying Circus) and his friend George Harrison on fame, etc., where Eric said something along the lines of "Had I known we were going to be such a success we would've tried harder." I believe George said, "Me, too."

Granny looks GREAT for 100! I wouldn't have pegged her a day over 82.

Sunny

Thanks for the good hatch vibes. Of course, they're only 3 days in so you can't tell much of anything about them other than a bunch of eggs on a joy ride in the 'bator bus. I am looking forward to candling in -- what -- a week. Don't know how much I'll be able to tell in the Marans eggs, though, with their dark shell. The Salmon Faverolle eggs are a bit noisy as they're on the smallish side and so when the egg turner slowly switches sides, the eggs *clunk* from one side of the egg cup to the other. And it's not all at once, so it sounds like something's banging about in there. (The Marans eggs are HUGE and are wedged into the rocker...on a couple the shells are actually touching)

Morning everyone! Boy is it ever so cold, I sure do hope we get snow soon so it will warm up!

Sunny, the converstaion about living to be 100 was with me and John's grandmother who lives with us. She'll be 98 the day after Christmas, I'm hoping she'll be a Super Centurion. I had to take her to the doctor last week because she feel on Thanksgiving and didn't say a word to anyone, my MIL saw it happen but she didn't even say anything. Nonni was acting a bit strange and I asked her if she was alright. She said "Well let me tell you, I fell". Oh my gosh did I ever freak out. Her doctor said if she falls she would only have a 1% change of survival but she was telling me 11 days later so it must not be too bad.

I took her to the doctor and he said he believed she only pulled a muscle and didn't break anything. We went and got the xrays done and they came back negative on her breaking anything but the doctor said there is an old break still there in her lower back. Nonni thought for a long time and said well I did fall over 30 years ago and it sure was a bad fall and it was very hard to walk for a long time so I guess I broke it then.

The doctor says Nonni is doing great and she may just live to be a Super Centurion after all.

Falls for the elderly are extremely dangerous, 1, because if elders break a hip there's a good chance they don't ever leave the nursing home and, 2, as we age our brains shrink and there's a good possibility for concussive brain movement and bleeding (that's a stroke!). My father spent the last three years of his life with a broken hip in a nursing facility and I used that as an example for Mom ("Now, mind your scotch and stairs or you'll end up in Rounsville") to get her to curtail her alcohol imbibement. She visited Dad every day and it was not a cheery thing.

That being said, my neighbor Velma at 96 had a fall on her morning walk and broke her hip. She was determined and was walking again 3 days later and discharged at 10 days. She goes a little slower now, but her gumption is still full-tilt boogie. Gotta love those spunky grannies!

Maybe you could put a bit of kleenex or something under the little eggs? I'm sure I'm being silly they knock together when a Mama hen moves then around.

Sorry Sheryl but I remember our conversation quite well and it was in person. No I had a serious feeling of deja vu when typing to Pam last night right down to the late hour and my sitting up in bed while typing that exact sentence out to her.
Happens to me often and sometimes it goes to the extremes where I know what the person is going to say next or in one instance I knew where to find this adorable little curio in a shop I had never been to before! I couldn't have, the shop was brand new but I was telling a friend about it and when I found it and said "See I told you it was right around this corner!" I didn't even realize how weird/creepy/awesome (not sure what I felt) it was til I turned and saw the look on my friend's face and she said "Sunny you couldn't have known it was there!". It didn't feel weird, felt totally normal til my friend pointed out the obvious.

I'm glad Nonni is ok!!! Not sure if her ignoring her falls is a good or bad. Maybe like Ron's story illustrates, if you don't expect disaster and have a positive outlook instead then disaster is much less likely. I do think that a positive attitude goes a loooong way!

I don't find it weird or strange when I heard, saw or anything else that happens to me, I just accept it and move on. I just figured it must be alright to have these things. Perhaps people just don't allow themselves to follow their dreams or something like that.

Yeah, Nonni was scared and didn't want to say anything. I guess it just worried her on falling and knowing what the doctor said. She's a bit down lately too, she doesn't know why she's still here. Well, I tell her everytime why she's here still.
