I am not a pro gender determiner by any means, but I have 17 chickens, and 1 looks very different from the rest. Mainly his comb. Here are some pics to see for yourself. If I am wrong(don't think so) then someone will get a free EE pullet. -Ed

I can't remember where in the ameraucana thread but there are some really great pics of the difference in combs in boys vs girls. The boys have 3 very clear rows and the girls have very small combs with one row or the tiniest hint of sides to the comb but not 3 distinct rows. The pics are very helpful but that thread is so huge I wouldn't know where to begin. Genny could pick out all the boys in my flock by the time they were 2-3 weeks old using this method. Pretty sure he's a splash. Good lookin boy!

I'm worried about you Ron. You always get my sense of humor and my sense of humor is more than a little off.

I told you you better start.

@Heryl. I don't but if I loose anymore birds this year I will. Do you know if they charge?

@Tyler - I don't believe they do charge but I also know the USDA will come to your property and will run tests there as well and it's a free service. I've been watching videos on UTube with my DH and the USDA is on there talking about how you can keep diseases out and keep and your animals safe. I know a lot of people don't trust them but hey it's worth a shot I say.

According to their videos they want to come out and make sure the backyard chickens are safe because people sell their eggs and they want to show them how to keep diseases out. The videos said they will come out for free before you have issues so I don't believe you need to lose them first but who knows for sure. I haven't done it yet.

Wow I'll have to look into that. That's awesome. I heard that the university will do tests if you've lost a few to figure out what is going on. Don't think they charge but if you're showing your birds then it's worth it to find out what's going on.

Sheryl I sent my request for a T-shirt for Steve and I to you a while ago. Did you get it?

I didn't get any requests yet Sunny, sorry. I was wondering what was going on with them. I know there were posts on the forum but I didn't get any PM's. I want to get them ordered soon so we can have them here before the show.

You are an educator now! It's funny because my husband only wanted us to get chickens that lay brown eggs. He is ok with the EE's too but he has no use for the white egg layers! I told him that they are all the same nutritionally.
