Good point on making the area under the roost useable with the poop boards. Hmm

: Now I am still on the fence about it. I will have roosts on 2 walls so I could try it on one and see.

We put up the roof trusses this morning. I used hurricane ties just to avoid having to make any notches. I just have the truss on each end to put on now. I'm putting HW cloth over the gable ends instead of siding so I'll have more ventilation. So I will work on that tonight. should be a blast. I just love working wth HW cloth

Great work! We used the hurricane ties too cause of all the wind we get here but I'd forgotten about that! Just face your vents away from the direction of the prevailing winds. If you think it's too drafty when you are done you can always clip removable covers over a portion of the vent areas that can be removed when it warms up.

I have your pm's Elizabeth & Ron and I responded to them as well.

I'm using the DLM as well and I just cleaned out the coop Saturday and put new straw in there too. I also use DE in there to kill any bugs. This is my 2nd cleaning for the year so I won't be doing anymore until around Spring sometime next year. IMO the DLM is best for our climate because the poo will give them their heat they may need and I don't need to clean my coop very often. I will continue to put straw in there as needed in the Winter and DE as well. If I should get mites then I'll Sevin dust in there too. This will be my first time having chickens in the Winter but I think everything is good at my place.

Edited to add: Oh and I don't use poop boards either and haven't had any issues with cleaning out the poo but my boards are painted as well and nothing has stuck to them so far. Put a layer of DE down before the straw and you shouldn't have any issues too, if you choose the DLM.

Ok. They have even less available now, durnit. I wanted long sleeve but those are only available in red in men's 3XL. My youngest son would love those though. He always wears his shirts 5x too big (he's scrawny and thinks he's fooling folks by hiding under huge shirts

).
Ok I'm sending my order to you. I wonder if I should just order them myself because I'll need to take mine in. The color I want doesn't come in my size. I'd like at least a week to get that done before the show. Anyway, I'm rambling again. I'll pm/email you Sheryl.

Genny and I thought perhaps she had an internal laying problem too and I thought she was going to be put down and sent to UNR soon. I mean this was even with her prolapse she had, I know it was the cloaca that prolapsed which isn't as serious as the more internal organs and tissues but seriously, I did not think she would be able to lay again, ever. I haven't weighed her anymore or anything except to hold her when she jumps up in my lap. I told her either your going to really hate me after this or really love me and she chose the love me. LOL

She refuses to fight anyone now and 2 Wyandottes sees that so they do peck her when they can. She's staying in the coop part of the day to get away from them but she does come out now and then and stays away from them. Nonni says it's because I loved her too much and she's not going to fight anymore. Oh well, I'm still in shock seeing this egg when I got home from work. My DH says she was in the nest box and he thought she was laying on one of the plastic eggs in there but when she got up the egg was in there.
