Looks like heavier snow is almost upon us. It's getting harder to see the hills to the North of us and they are only 3/4 of a mile away.

I'm getting that popcorn snow here at my place!

The winds are dying a bit now, I'm seeing mainly 17 mph with gusts up to 25 mph from the NWS website.

Sunny - I knew it was close but I didn't think it was that close, I know I can see it from my backyard and the street too. I just drove to South Reno to pick up a package over by Reno High School and let me tell you the emergency responders are ready there. I saw some cars but I thought there would be more than what was there.

Okay, Seth we will be talking to Aubrey and I'll keep her attention on some really pretty chickens and you cut her pocket but do not cut the baby!

Should we take bets on Aubrey, will she or will she not come home with more babies?

I know in her heart there is no way she's going to leave little babies alone. She's going to pick them up and hold them and smile so big and say I need this one. Then she'll see another one and she'll need it too! Shoot, it may happen to me. Someone please bring the handcuffs with you.

Don't forget to bring your chair too!

Well Seth, I don't think anyone is thinking of buying chickens at the show, it's more like when you see them and your heart sinks. You don't want to touch but you just can't help yourself. I guess it's like being in the candy store and you're just looking.

You can show any chicken - even those colors "not approved" you would just show in the AOV catagory - All Other Varieties. Your bird may or may not do well, it all depends upon how close your bird matches up to the Standard for your breed.

The best way is to get a copy of the APA Standard (American Poultry of America) and study it.

I have the standard for each breed I am interested in, in a file on my computer. I also keep files of pictures of winning birds in my "class" - bantam cochin for example, so I can compare them to the birds in my yard and see what/where I need to improve.
