Nevadans?

We are too far away from any family to have company. We'll be going to friends for t-day. It is usually very relaxing. On Friday I will go and buy up some fresh turkeys that have been slashed in price and roast them so we'll have lots of turkey for the freezer and carcasses for soup. I need to have turkey leftovers!

Oh thank you Elizabeth!!! If they aren't expensive I should just buy one since I take a lot of photos from my phone.

Where did you get yours?

BTW I felt bad after I left that I forgot to get pics of you and your family and of GetLost80 (Cecelia) and her family too. Once I took pics and put my phone away I didn't think about it again.

Wow it sounds like I missed everyone at the poultry show!

Next time, I guess...

I was going to suggest an USB SD card reader, too. Also, if your phone has an USB charging cable, you should be able to connect it directly to your computer. With some phones (e.g. my Motorola), you need to download a driver for the phone, but they are usually free from the manufacturer's website. Also, my phone's wall charger is actually an USB cable, too, so you may already have one and not know it!

ETA: I have family in the area that will be coming over plus friends who's families live along way away (Texas and New York) that will be coming over, too. Luckily my turkey was 35+ lbs.
ep.gif
(I'm going to weigh him tonight) so there will be plenty for both eating and leftovers!

Wow! Maybe you'll have to start cooking him tonight to have it done by tomorrow!

LOL!!! We're going to deep fry it. We'll probably have to cut it in half first, though!

I like that one. It's fancy compared to mine.

Way to go Ron!!! Mark and I are thinking of raising the two BR roosters we ended up with to eat, but I think it would be more trouble than it's worth because we would have to send them out to be killed and processed. Not to mention that when all is said and done I don't think I'll be able to eat them. Guess they will go on craigslist.

Harsh realities hit me today. I work at a coffee shop now and don't make the incredible amount of money I was making earlier this year with the trucking co. 8x12barn/ shed on CL for 500 bucks. It is weathered and cool looking and has A metal roof. I love it, oh I dream. I wish I still had money but at least I'm happier. I think I will start saving my tips from here on out though until I can afford to buy a shed. Ultimately I think that would be the best route to go now with my growing flock and plans to breed the goats (have to for milk

)

I thought you said you on't need anymore goats. HAHAHA

Welcome to our group and

I am just getting back on after we moved to our new house so I'm a little behind.

welcome! I would definitely say the nevada thread is DEFINITELY the best group on this whole website hands down! (with nor cal being a very close second, lol.) However, our group is SO AWESOME, that even the nor cal people cant stay away

what part of reno are ya chicken keepin'?

I agree.
Even though I hate Nevada the Nevada thread is the greatest on here.

Quote:
I will gladly buy one from you! If I get one from mypetchicken.com, they're $10 for a pullet plus shipping. I would like to get two, but don't want to pay $20 for two chicks with a 10% possibility of being roosters. I'll remind you in the spring... I'm sure I'll still be around.

Once you post in the Nevada thread we don't let you leave. Just ask Ron.

Sounds like the hatchery did something to you. I think they use mind control.

Quote:
I can provide for them now... it'll give me a good focus until I can start gardening again. But I know that everyone has a different outlook on their babies and some want to find a permanent home. But I'm sure I can find a home for a silkie rooster.

If you do decide to rehome them, please let me know. I can pick them up.

very cool! I have 14 chicks in my grow-out room right now so making space for them is always nice. They are a week and a half old right now so they will need to be under heat still and they are from ideal hatchery so i honestly have no idea what quality they will be when they grow up. What I do know is that silkies are infamous for being the most docile breed ever! Theyre free if ya want em
smile.png
I work a swing schedule so just check with me whenever you wanna come get em and ill let you know what my schedule is like

I'm afraid I'm adding a lot more than I'm spreading! Now I'm thinking maybe a couple of australorps might be cool but then all of my marans are black copper so more black hens might be too much of one color.
idunno.gif

I just realized that in spring I am adding about 50 birds to my flock and they are all from BYCers!!! (so far anyway)
Wow BYC has turned into a lot more than an information resource for me!

Just don't tell Steve he might ban you. Oh wait he knows not to tell you that you can't do something.

weve been really chatty lately. Speaking of which, i vote we make Mama the official nevada thread chicken.

I agree. She is the perfect chicken for it.

She even posed for it. She knows she's a star.

Hi there!

I'm in Vegas and also have a 8 x 10 shed in my "Bird Pen". I think it works great - but it does get a little warm in the summer. I'm looking for a way to cover the roof with something that would help deflect the sun next summer... meanwhile I got creative and removed on "panel" from each side of the shed so that more air can move thru. That helped alot. 'Course that only works if your shed is enclosed in your pen.

My floor is plywood... and I just try to keep straw or grass (from my neighbor when he mows his lawn
smile.png
on the floor and I try to pick up any big "poo bombs" daily if I can... I have my nest boxes and a couple places for them to roost (tho most of them prefer to be outside to roost). Oh - we did build a little "poo-catcher" under the roosts to contain some of the mess and keep them from walking in it.

And here's the weirdest thing I do! My neighborhood is known for having "roof rats", so I got creative and put a Legal-size 4 drawer Filing Cabinet in the shed to store their feed and a few other things. It works GREAT!! I love it! I took some empty feed bags, cut the tops off, roll the edges down a couple times and set the bags in the drawer. I can fit at least 3 of these in one drawer. Then I just fill them up with feed! It takes up less space than trash cans, keeps everything clean and definitely keeps the mice/rats out!

Well, that's my 2 cents worth! Hope you can find something useful in my ramblings!

God bless!

Welcome to our group. i don't think I've met you on here yet.

HAHAH. He Sounds like he should of been named King Jack.
I'm glad he is doing well and you are spoiling him. I hated to have to get rid of him but he was to mean to me.

Sorry but if this is the same Monique you got from me, she is a cuckoo marans. No mix but she is hatchery stock. Glad to hear she is laying well. Bella is the mixed one and she is half EE (or Del) and half blue Orp. Oh and you're getting Mythkat (Kathy) and Seth mixed up. Kathy asked about the next show not Seth.

Oh man! I hate when I do that, I'm so sorry MythKat.

to me! Man that Cap'n Jack has all the luck! The next thing that could happen - Tyler is going to want to know if you would take him in too! See Tyler, you needed to watch movies and feed him popcorn and he would be have been nice to you too!

Ok Lacey, you are on the list to go to Stockton with me. Let's hope the weather holds up. Also, this is right around my birthday and it's one of those big ones!

The big 50!

I know most people would not ever say their age on here, a few would, but this one is very special to me. Not very many of you know there is liver disease in my family and I have it. I should be in la la land by now and waiting for a transplant. My mind should be toast, it's sorta like Alzheimer's but actually it's too much protein that my liver produces into the blood stream and body. It makes you where you can't remember numbers like what year it is, your address or your phone number. You won't be able to add 2+2 or count up to 10. But instead I'm celebrating a birthday and I am still working which I should not be doing. My liver enzymes are normal too. So yeah!

my dog got out while we were moving the poultry and was hit by a car saturday night. my mom and dad found her on sunday and brought her collar home for me. She'll be missed.
but i did have fun at the show meeting all of you.
Aubrey is'nt as mean as she looks. I thought she' be all mean an have a mean voice but I was way wrong. Sheryl is a mega Mom.
Sunny is super awesome.
The only thing about Aubrey is she almost ran the judge of the road before the show even started.
