He also thinks the raccoons haven't found us yet because we don't have a rooster, the raccoons are all around us and so far so good. I want to keep it that way too, those things are nasty and mean.
Ditto! I haven't seen any evidence yet that something has tried to invade my coops, except for the schnauzers I dogsit once in awhile. Fixed that problem with Coop Knox! The raccoons know about our yard if they're still checking the coon bulletin board, because there's been a koi pond and gardens here for over 4 years. Tater's pretty intolerant of them, though. I think that's also made a difference.
Thanks for the b-day wishes everyone! Unfortunately while markie and I were in sacramento something got into our yard and killed my new white showgirl other than that it was a good time, as usual. I love birthdays!
Also sunny, i saw you posted about too many roos. After the death of our showgirl mark and I are very seriously considering getting a large breed roo. We just need to decide if we have to raise it from a chick so it will be nice to mr pants and us...
I wondered where she got that! I read that code thoroughly when I moved here and only saw the nusiance laws. Whew, thought I was losing it for a minute there!
Aubrey was having issues with the new platform and her phone. Her computer won't navigate it well at all.
Hopefully she was still be able to peek at the B-day wishes... My computer is super slow on the new platform too. Getting tougher and tougher to stay caught up.
Thanks for the pics Horseshowmom! Cute babies!!!
OK. I finally got some pics of my babies! Sorry they aren't the best but here ya go...
OK I promised pics so here are just a few of the dozens I took today. No contest winners here but cuties none the less!
This fella is from the oldest batch of chicks from Kim/Wolftracks.
This gal wants to mother all the babies when they are out exercising with her during the day. But they aren't much interested in holding still. She's already got her nest staked out!
They are really starting to take off and fly. The run is covered so no wing clipping necessary for these guys.
This little fella made a break for it (with the help of the lavender pushing from behind lol). Steve scooped him right up though and back in he went.
Really curious about the big black box stuck to my face!
Total camera hogs these babies are but the edge made them think twice about trying to crowd in any closer.
OK the Polish babies are at that awkward adolescent phase but here ya go...
This little boy and girl seem to have quite a bit more fluff on top than most of them. Steve is so proud of his new babies!

Oh no! So sorry about your bird. Things like that always happen on my bday, so I know how much thay sucks.
You need to see if one of my roos on the California thread would be something you'd like. If I don't get all my pics up and find homes ASAP some will go to auction tomorrow.

Do I need to get written permission from my neighbors to keep my chickens? They gave me thier blessing when I started but I didn't ask for a permission slip. Also, no brooders in the basement?
Kim can you link the page youre talking about? i cant find it. are there pictures? I have a basic idea of the kind of roo i would want if we got a large one. Either an extremely colorful marans, or something with a white head and green tail feathers like a sex link. Also I want it to DESPISE elvis and chase him around whenever he goes outside. (you know, keep the fear in him) but yet know that mark and i are the food givers.

Nope Alan that was for Vegas only. They are much stricter down there.
Missy I have one OE with a pea comb that I think is a girl. I'm waiting to be sure before she goes home with you! If it turns out to be a boy then I have more OEs in the bator right now.
Daniel, YES! Steve and I are definitely up for a workshop and BBQ! If someone will back me up with some instrumental I am fine with belting out a couple of tunes as well. Whoever backs me up needs to be able to play by ear though since I rarely sing songs in the keys they are written in (my singing voice is pretty low for a gal). This will be sooo cool! I'm taking Steve to the sites about the Rocket Mass Heaters now to refresh his memory. Yea!
Thanks Horseshowmom! They are such a blast at this age! Running all around but hiding behind me when the bigger chickens come near. I love taking them out for exercise right now and watching them "fly" around! lol
Aubrey that is so sad about your little girl.
Does it help that I've saved a WCB Polish girl for you? I wanted to just show up with her when she was grown and surprise you but thought maybe this news might help a little right now. If Mr. fancy pants is a roo then my boys will most likely fight with him. They are great around us but they do fight with each other. If there is one really meek one in the group you could have him but any roo this mellow would not chase Elvis around. I've been saving them for you to look at since you mentioned this several months ago.
Thanks Candy and Elizabeth. Steve and I are enjoying the heck out of them! They are such charming, delightful, little clowns!
