Nevadans?

Hey peeps!! I have to admit, I didnt go through all 167 unread posts (...yet!) But I'll comment on what I saw. ^^
Seth, can you repost that link to that comb contest after I buy my new camera? I really want to enter!
Aubrey, sorry about your showgirl, that really blows.

Sunny, that egg is super dark!! A six out of ten right? I bet a ten is crazy.
I forgot who's coop I saw, but that was impressive! Great start, its huge! I'd love a coop like that, lol.
Did anyone go to Green's chick day? I did, but they didnt have a huge variety. I got 5 buff orps, 3 or 4 Cinnamon queens (yeee!) and something wierd. It looked like a RIR, but now shes growing white feathers. With red down? Im not sure about her.
Best news yet, I bought an incubator finally!! Does anyone have some eggs I could buy in the next couple of days? I dont mind mixes, and I like my mixes, but Im looking for new mixes. Last year I got a ton of solid black chicks. I'd like to switch it up a little. ^^
Worse news yet? I guess my mom rehome my roo the day after I found my hen without thinking about it. :/ Now he's got a new home and all, but I cant breed them. Mom feels horrible, (which is why I got my chick day chicks, by they way.) Shes been all tired and just handed him to he guy. Urg. I cant be too upset with her, right?
Anyway, hopefully this coming week wont be so stressful.

sorry about your roo getting rehomed.

You and Aubrey have just the worst luck.

I restrained myself from going to Greens for chick day. I have plenty of chicks either here now or on the way but I was very tempted to go and see. I've never heard of cinnamon queens before. Congrats on the incubator.

Sunny, congrats! It's beautiful!!! I'm jealous, even if it is only a 6.

Horseshowmomnv, looking great. Don't you just LOVE the weather? Remember Tuesday is going to be nasty, and winds Monday afternoon/evening are going to be evil. But it will be nice again soon.

I didn't hear about chick day. Good thing. I might have taken something home. Like I really need them, lol.

Lacey, sorry about your roo. Hopefully you can get the roo you want out of our hatch. I'm glad somebody wants some of these boys! How many chickens do you have right now?

Sheryl, do you think the ducklings would want to ride around in a padded pocket on a warm day? I've been wondering about that lately, with the whole imprint thing. Maybe I'm just crazy.

Nothing exciting here, except I'm very proud to announce that all 10 chickens and 2 dogs like to chill out together in the backyard. The association exercises we've done have worked great. I'd have a picture to share, but all my connection cables are in Manila. Cacciatore and Tikka (welsummer and wyandotte) are still pretty unsure about these dog thingies that like to explore their coop and sniff chicken butts. But all the other newbies are following the old girls' lead and showing no fear around them. Now all but Cacciatore and Tikka run to me when I come outside. They learn fast!

I was worried about the amount of chicken poop in the backyard with all the new additions, but it's not a problem. The dogs come up and eat it before we can step in it. Good thing I don't let them lick faces.

No new layers yet, except for the old ladies (like 11 months is old) and the barred rock. But they're getting plenty of sunlight out in the sunshine.

Huh. In the pics it looked like 8x12 at least. Our biggest coop is a little over an 8x10 with the brooder bumpout. The waking up with ideas sounds like something I would do! My brain apparently thinks it's above sleep. Of course the less sleep I get the more irrational that brain is!

Hi Lacey! The marans' scale only goes to 9. So a 6 out of 9. Pretty but in a year or so I expect to have lots of 8s at least. I resisted Greens chicks too. I have so many now and even more coming.

Sorry about your roo but it sounds like you scored at Greens Feed big time!

Missy before I forget again... I love that soap you gave me! I want more! Ok, I know we aren't supposed to buy and sell here on the threads so you can pm me with the price for more. The mods can delete this if I'm overstepping things here. Anyway it's great stuff. Don't change a thing!

I have a gorgeous Buff X Wheaten Ameraucana rooster chick (3 months old) looking for a home for those of you who are looking for a special rooster

Look how beautiful his feathers are already! Pretty lavender in his tail! He is very mellow and has been raised with bantam Polish girls and is very gentle with them.

Candy, he's beautiful! Looks like a sunset!

Sunny, I'm so glad you like it. That's my most popular recipe, and it looks like I should get another batch curing. I'll PM you.

Wow, everyone is so chatty today. It's really great seeing everyone enjoying themselves today.

All Right Sunny! Great news from you today! I hope you get tons more. Speaking of which I have some duck eggs for you.

Daniel, I would love to see your heater as well.

Oh I know Missy, I can't believe it! Little chickies next weekend and ducklings the following. I have exactly 8 ducklings growing right now. They are looking really nice. I just keep hoping all goes well in 2 weeks.

I can't believe my children are going to be here in 2 weeks. My older son and his wife and the kids, my youngest son with his wife and they always bring friends with them. John's sister called and asked if she could come too from California. I love having a house full with ducklings hatching.

Jann - Not sure if you know this but if the chickens are free ranging all day long then you have room for 40 of them in that coop. I do believe we are all having coop envy right now. I can only go to 12 in my coop before we add on to it. John's ready to do that soon.

Aubrey - it's good to see you back on here again.

Patty is back in with the flock. I gave her antibiotics and 1 of her lumps is gone. She seems a bit better so I'm hoping she will be able to get over this.

Okay, I have heard that SLW's can lay 2 eggs per day sometimes. I just figured it must be a wind egg people are talking about until today. Wynonna laid 2 eggs, exactly the same shape and size. They were both medium, one was the normal shade and the other was a cream shade. She laid them one right after the other at the same time. They looked liked twins except like I said the colors did not match. I thought perhaps it was Patty but it wasn't her shape. I found them right after Wynonna left the nest box. Patty was going in and out of the coop but never sat in the nests. These were not wind eggs at all. Last year I laughed when Cindy from Greens Feed told me sometimes they will lay 2 eggs the same day.

Missy, you are so funny. With ducks you can carry them around but all I can picture if them going poo in your pockets and their poo is worse than chicken poo. I read ducks can go out as early as 2 weeks but there is no way I'm doing that with the ones I keep. They'll be nice in their brooder for a bit. I will lower the temps sooner then you would chickens since they do have fat reserve on their bodies. I'm looking forward to having ducklings. I know they won't be flying out of the brooder like the chickies did. It was really hard to keep them in there. We ended up building an inside brooder out of a 8x4 sheet of plywood with 4 ft of chicken wire and they still flew out of there. We had to cover it with an old sheet. I do not miss those days and my house is still dusty from it. Yuck!
