Nevadans?

Cute rabbit Seth. :]
Sunny, those babies are so cute!! I can't wait to see the yokahamas grow up! I've always been intruiged by that breed.
So a while back, you all were saying what you started with and how much that number has grown. My very first experience with chickens was when I was five or six and we ordered 25 Rhode Island Reds and 25 Barred Rocks. That kinda means I'm, well, entitled to about 1000 chickens, right?

Yes!!
I set my incubator last night. Im nervous, my first time hatching without a hen. March 28th will be the day of truth. Yikes!
Aubrey, Petey's babies are freakin adorable!! I love them!

Sorry to hear about your warning Seth. If I remember correctly there are BLRW bantams for sale that will work out. I'm not sure if a LF will work with bantams. Perhaps it would workout if they are raised together.

Aubrey I think the box idea will work for you.

You should be able to find ACV with the mother in it at any store, I know SaveMart carries it just not sure if it's Braggs or not? If it's for the chickens then any ACV should do. I know a lot of people are saying it should have the mother in it, I'm just not sure if that's accurate or not.

Always with the Mother. The other stuff is distilled ans all the medicinal qualities have been removed. And raw does not go bad, ever. If it's cloudy, it's even stronger. My gggrandfather got me started on it when I was about 10. I can't find it on Modesto, not even in healthfood stores. I use it when I have it for everything and if I could get a bottle I'd be taking it myself for my arm, my back, my neck and all the weight I've put on. It's the first thing I'm going to stop and buy the next time I'm in the Bay Area. There are other brands just as good, but Braggs is the most popular. BTW my grandpa was 104 when he died and one of the reasons he said, was because of ACV. OK sorry. I've been a promotor for decades.

SETH!!!!!!!!!!!

I swear, you look EXACTLY like my ex best friends youngest son. Exactly!!!! Eye's, hair, just everything. You could be twins. Identical twins.

Oh and my bantams are way outnumbered by FBCMs so no problem with those either.

Love your bunny Seth, I hope she does well this year.

We are just 2 days away and off Missy and I go to Grass Valley to pick up the baby chicks boy this is going to be a blast for sure.

Seth, I have a mixed flock. Giant birds to tiny birds and they all manage to get along perfectly well. Even before when i had 5 large girls and 4 young showgirls in a small pen things worked out well. I think it all depends on the birds personalities and how well you do introducing them. I honestly think that if raised together they work things out on their own. As of now I have 7 bantam birds and 14 large girls. all is well.
Your bunny is so adorable. I want to cuddle it too!

Yeah, thinking about it, I've got a silkie, 2 cochins, and my tiny OEGB girl running with the bigger gals. What you should do though is make sure they've got tons of room, just in case one needs to get away.

I sure wish someone could deliver a GC Marans to Vegas! C'mon, now the wind has stopped blowing all the old fronds off my palm trees, the weather is really nice!

Oh, forgot to add...I DO have a broody! I'm moving her to a broody cage so that we won't be risking life and limb to gather eggs and to make sure the move won't break her brood before getting her some eggs. I have arranged to get some cool BCM mixes from ke_ben and some Blue CM mixes from another friend just in case!

See, I NEED a GCM!!!!

I have had a 2wk with a day-old chick. They were great together. Then after another week I got a few (4) more day-olds. They were also good, but when I added a few more a few weeks later...not so good. I think that the trick is to make sure the littles outnumber the older chick, and I'd not try it with a chick more than 3 wks old. Hope that makes sense. Actually, out of all those chicks...the only one to go broody was the older chick. I raised her to be a momma!

Hey Everybody!
I haven't been on here in a while so I'm sure I've missed some good chicken stories!

I was wondering if anyone in Vegas knows of any "banty" chicks available? I've got a little hen that's been broody and I finally decided I'd try to find her a chick to "hatch" out of that fake nest egg she's been setting on!

In the past I have had good luck with chicks up to 3 weeks old - the hen looked at me a little funny and did take a day to bond with them but it worked out great!

Oh - and I have what I think is an Americauna Rooster that needs a home - he hasn't started crowing much yet but I need to get him a home before he does so my neighbors don't turn me in! :( He's fairly tame - I pick him up and hold him now and then.... I have pics if anyone's interested... maybe I can add it here - I'll give it a try...

Thanks for any help!

Seth, The reason I said that I wouldn't mix the Wyandotte chicks with bantams is, if you get a rooster chick, they have a habit of thinking its fun to jump on the other chicks and can hurt them. I had to separate them from my bantam Polish chicks they hatched with for that reason

Now on the other hand, I have my buff x wheaten Ameraucana project chicks in with my bantam Polish girls and they are so mellow that it is working out just fine

So, like some of the others have said, it depends on the breed.

Hope your working on that BIG brooder box for your 6 chicks

I would recommend the ceramic reptile heat lamp bulbs to keep them warm and they are much safer too. You can buy them at pet stores.

That's what we used for our first brooder... it was leftover from my husband's first snake. Worked great and didn't get too hot.

Kim, I haven't added ACV as part of our health program, but it looks like I need to start. I've only taken it once, and didn't know it had to be a certain kind, so I took generic ACV. After coughing and gagging I decided the benefits from that bottle wouldn't be so great.

If I had all of my chickens in a smaller space, my little welsummer would be featherless. But they run around the whole yard, and she just chooses to go to different areas. And there's plenty of perch space at night. When I get my 2 silkies, I think it should be fine for that reason. If not, I have the old coop that's perfect for them.
