Nevadans?

Got our first greenish egg today from our EE girls! They just turned 5 months! It would be nice if the other girls laid blue and pink eggs!

I'm still waiting on my green layer. My lavender ameraucana should be starting within the next few weeks, I think.

So does anyone have a super good reason why I shouldn't give my chickens a little dog food now and then? The turken goes insane for it, and her hatchmates aren't far behind. Whenever I tend to the chickens then walk inside, she runs after me then asks (rather politely, in fact) for dog food. She never gets more than a few little nuggets before the dogs intervene. And it's Walmart food anyway, so it's mostly grains and a bit of crude protein.

Yesterday I came home and Joe said, "Mom, the chickens somehow got in the house to eat the dog food." (The bowl is just on the inside of the door.) Yeah, right. Somehow, a kid thought it was amusing to let the chickens inside to eat the food, then close the door behind them. He had a few poop piles to clean up for that.

Hi all!

Aubrey so glad to hear the chicks are doing well!

Missy I have heard that dog food is bad for chickens but then I've read about folks that swear it helps them lay better. So my answer is... I have no idea.

I avoid it just because I'm not 100% sure it's ok.

I got all my pics downloaded onto my computer now... but when I tried to upload them to BYC the screen froze. I tried several times and waited over half an hour to see if it would finally load. Nope. IDK if I want to buy up here after all. I need to live somewhere with decent internet service.

Dang it! I have the prettiest blue and green egg pic to show you. :(

The first eggs are so exciting! I should be bored by now but I still get so excited when a pullet finally starts to lay.

I have to shoo off the chickens every morning and if the dog doesn't finish, I put the bowl away, and man can they be aggressive!

Sunny, so great to have you back! Even on a limited basis! I agree, I couldn't possibly live without service.

Hi Pam! How are you feeling after being back to work for awhile? I know the doc hadn't released you yet and was a little worried you might hurt your back. Hope all is well!

Hi Sunny, so good to see you back here. Went to my Dr on Monday and he's really happy with my progress. Returning to work early was just physically hard after not doing anything for 4 months and then working full time

but had to fire an employee, couldn't let it go on anymore. No damage to my back, he said I'm good to slowly return to activities!

My family dr (since she's closer) is managing my pain meds and we just cut down again, I have to wait a month to lower again but glad to be reducing. I know I need to take it slow but I'm getting my life back Sunny. Now......your back, where are we with that?
