Never Before Heard Call in the Night.... Fox (wav. file). Update: Tracks Update2: Saw Fox!

Ok, just last night my daughter showed me this video and I didn't really get it until I read this thread.

That was hilarious. Thanks for sharing it!

Yup, he's here. Tracks on dirt road just outside my gated driveway. Being so close together, the span of front and back paws which you can see in the first pic taken directly above and with my toes in the shot for perspective, shape of the pads, says fox to me. Found these yesterday morning. They are fairly deep in the front, like he was running. They don't seem large enough, size or span, to be coyote, plus pad shape is off for that from what I've researched. All dogs around this area are huge or the little Boston Terrier across the road from me, but that is definitely not her tracks. Plus, come to think of it, I haven't seen her in a very long time. Wonder if another canine had her for a snack. I'm not much of a tracker so I could be mistaken, but I've never seen any dogs of any size around here walk with paws this close together.

Heard coyotes in the distance last night-the baby monitor in the coop picks up sounds that we just don't hear straight through the window, plus in winter, windows are closed. The predators are making themselves known this year, for sure.

Yep, it's definitely a fox. Had a den on the front corner of my property a few years ago, before it was entirely perimeter fenced (though the fence is not made to keep a fox or coyote out, just my birds contained and n'hood dogs from being to easily run across and grab a chicken). We "encouraged" Mrs. Fox to leave and haven't seen one since then. My closest neighbor, who lives in a Disney la-la land, has been telling everyone she can get to listen ever since how we shot the fox, like we're horrible people. We didn't shoot mama fox, but she was mad that we made it vacate the den. She's the type who feeds coons and other local wildlife, like they can't find enough to eat on their own in our mountain woods, right? It was on my property so it was my fox, dang it. She doesn't think coyotes eat chickens. Yes, she said that. What did I tell you? In her head, all our wildlife is skipping down the trails holding paws, I guess. And of course, they realize they are not supposed to eat my chickens.
