Never ending rain/muddy run/mulch vs sand?

Don't use sand, find a local quarry with aglime, aka pulverized limestone/dolomite. Put a few inches of that in and tamp it down and it will be much better.

If you are in Stroudsberg you feel my pain with all of this rain! I used straw on the run floor for a few months but I worry about crop impaction, so I don't want to keep that up. Is that a concern with alfalfa hay too?
With the bale, theres little leaves and long pieces of straw. I guess they could get impacted. Hoping not.

mulch or sand would be the best
Mulch, without a doubt!

First fix any drainage issues...is rain water 'running' into the run?
Gutters, trenches, swales can make a big difference in reducing/controlling runoff.

Pics of run and surrounding area(wide shots) would help garner viable solutions/suggestions.
