Before considering this, you might want to save your money. In my quest for relieving my chickens in this heat, I bought a "mister" at WalMart as have others. The problem I encountered made it unuseable however. My chickens are located about 75 feet from the house. In order to reach them I have two 50 foot lengths of garden hose. The "mister" screws on to the last section of hose and reduces the waterflow into a 3/8 inch curly mini-hose with the spray jet attached. With the garden hose laying in the sun, due to the reduction in size of the mini-hose, the jet mists nicely but is at a temperature of about 150 degrees! Hot enough to make it very uncomfortable on your hand. If you get one of these, make sure your hose does not get direct sun on it. I dont have much shade and certainly not enough to keep the water cool. Hope this helps if you are considering buying one!

* Yep. You can, however, run out that nice hot water into a clean bucket and use it for purposes like laundry, etc. and lower your hot water bill.

Just cover over the hose. A thick mulch would do it, but it may be more useful to shallowly (is that a word?) trench the hose into your lawn. Honest! Just go along with a straight (i.e. square, not rounded-pointy) shovel, stabbing it into the lawn at an angle so you are prying back some sod, about 6" deep or so. Wiggle it back and forth to widen out the trench a little. Lay the hose in there. Press the turf back down with your foot. Voila, a buried water line.

Unless you live in a not-too-Arctic climate and use one of the super heavy duty 'lifetime hoses', you will have to either blow it empty or pry it back up before wintertime (if it's left with water in it over the winter, it will bust).

Seriously, it works. Also keeps the hose out of the way of lawnmowers and feet.
