Never had geese but I think I want some!

We have been looking at a few like- cotton patch, embden Pilgrim, Pomeranian, and the curly ones(I don't know what they are called)
AuroSprings here on BYC has Cotton Patch,

Mrs Magoo would be one of your closest sources for Pomeranian geese

as already mentioned the curlies are Sebastopols.

I would stay away from all hatcheries except Metzers for buying waterfowl.

There is a waterfowl breeders directory here on BYC as well

I have a pair of "Utility" Toulouse geese. Not the "Dewlap" type of Toulouse. They are amazing, and no knobby things, either. ;-). They are in my flock of 50-some chickens, a slew of Cayuga ducks, and a couple of turkeys.
They do alert, quite well. My two do not like "conflict" in the flock so they will break up amorous pairs of chicken or ducks, if there is any noise about it. I think it's cool because roosters should be gentlemen with their hens and only mount the willing.
I bought mine as goslings shipped in the mail from Ideal Poultry.

Oh really??!!! That's amazing! That's kind of what I would want to happen lol! Is it better to get them as goslings vs. adults?

I echo CelticOaks' recommendation for waterfowl... I ordered my Cayugas from Metzer Farms and I highly recommend them. If I order any more geese, I'd get them from Metzer.

If you want personable geese, get them as goslings. Adult geese may not be as touchy-feely friendly as some favorite chickens, even if raised from goslings, but they will be "used" to you instead of having to learn to like you.

First Merry Christmas and welcome to the goose section of BYC!

As to the alerting and enforcement of the flock's morality code....they are pretty good at it: We call them the geese police here. It can get quite loud and a bit scary for the ducks or chickens who are attempting to mate to have a dozen + geese running at them hissing, honking, swinging their heads back and forth, and flapping their wings....lol.

All the posters are correct about goslings: They are far more sociable and loving than babies of other poultry and fowl. Mine will follow me around the property when they are goslings through young adults. This lasts till they are 4+ months and join the main flock. After that, I let them become part of the flock and they are not as bonded to me. However, I can go into the barn and pick each of them up with minimal fussing from them: A couple enjoy being pet and held.
