I have 2 eggs under a broody right now. They are due to hatch on 5/14/12. When it gets close to hatch day, will I need to separate the rooster from the hen? If so, how long do I keep them apart? Will the roo pick on the little ones?

Its the luck of the draw...The rooster could be a great daddy and help momma partly...or he could be a real jerk and go after chicks...you will have to watch closely...personally...i would block off momma from the roo until she hatches them out and a few weeks have passed....better safe than sorry...any aggresion on the roos part? Is he brutal with his hen when it comes to mating? Any signs of aggresion would deterr me from keeping them together...

I havent seen any signs of aggression. When it comes time to do the deed, he jumps on her back, grabs her neck, does what he has to do, and leaves her alone. I will just keep an eye on him. And an even closer eye when it comes closer to hatch day.

Thanx
