... did I think I'd find myself on a site for CHICKENS! But so many of my friends and neighbors have them that I decided to jump on the backyard chicken bandwagon.

Last weekend, I bought 7 Ameraucana chicks at my local Agway. Five are lavender and two are black. Several chicken-owning neighbors assured me this was a safe place to purchase them, and I'm relatively sure they are REAL Ameraucanas and not Easter Eggers. They are 3 weeks old now; can't wait to find out how many are hens and how many are 'roo's! I really want them for eggs (and their company), so not sure what to do if more than one is a 'roo - fingers crossed.

I bought a sweet chicken tractor from a neighbor; it's Amish made and the chickies should be very happy there. Also on my property are 4 alpacas and a guard llama, and two dogs (who don't have access to the paddock).

I'm a knitting addict, and looking forward to spending some down time with the chickens which I work on my projects.

Welcome, welcome! LOL, the chickies have called you over to the "right" side :ya I have never enjoyed life so much as havin my babies.....love the cattle but quite honestly the chickens give me great joy. After 3 years of chicks, got goats and now i'm bustin out laughin watchin them! Had to add to guard dogs to patrol the farm while we sleep....Never thought I'd have so many animals. I'm pretty sure my family is in shock at me stayin home and takin care of the animals (I used to travel alot, just to visit other places). I even leave gatherings early to get home before dark so everybody is checked on and locked up for the night. Only if the gathering is a REALLY big deal do I have son/friend lock them all up, but then I check everybody when I get home.
