My birds free-range during the day and I collect their eggs from their two nests each day.
One hen started a new nest in brush and high grass. I followed her to find the new nest and saw her come running out of the brush carrying an egg in her beak. She ran into the yard where she dropped the egg. The tom ate it before I could reach them.
Today I found an eaten egg in the yard and checked the other nest spot where another hen is laying. It was sticky with egg goo so obviously that's where the egg came from.
I know the hens look for safer nestsites if their eggs keep 'disappearing'
but is it comman for hens to pick up and move eggs ?
