Nevermind

I am not new to chickens but even with my years of experience, I would not vent sex a chick. There is too much that can go wrong. Too tight a squeeze and you could kill the chick. You could also cause some very serious internal injuries. I will leave vent sexing to the experts.

From my researching on the internet and many years of chicken care, I see vent sexing requires a lot of training and is not easy to learn. It is not something to be taken lightly. There's roughly a 10% margin of error, even for professionals who have done it for many years. Not to mention the injuries/deaths of chicks caused by amateur handling.

And from my many years of social interaction with humans, I can see that your social skills are themselves in need of some editing.

I'm no expert. I've never tried it. I would be afraid to try it .. but.... a few months ago I saw a program on the Discovery Channel. They were at McMurray Hatchery sexing baby chicks. The host Mike Rowe was taught how to do it in a short time. I think it is something that has to be physicially taught where someone experienced is right there with you showing you how to do it. And oh... what they did was squeeze the poo out of the chick first then look for the bump. I wouldn't recommend it without professional supervision. But he did learn to do it. But he wasn't near as fast as the experts.

Edited to say: I forgot to mention the name of the show was "Dirty Jobs". The host was Mike Rowe. It was interesting and they made it humorous, but for me I will leave it to the experts or just them grow up to see what sex they are.

Uhm, that was TV. Not necessarily real.

The program is called Dirty Jobs. Its like a documentary to show some of the "not so pleasant" jobs some people have in our society to make life easier for the rest of us. They may have edited it to make it seem he learned it quickly. I don't know for sure. But I don't think the process was fiction. But they may have made it sound easier then it really is.

A friend of mine tried vent sexing chicks. She tried it out on her broody's seven chicks. By evening all of the chicks were dead.

I ain't risking it! Just my two cents...
