So I decided to drop the bantams because I'm only a beginner and I'd like to start with just 6 egg laying chickens. I also decided to drop the white leghorns because I hear they can fly very well and I'm just going to have these chickens in a 6 ft fenced in run attached to their coop. I just don't want them flying over. Thank you for the info tho!

Good luck on your new adventure! My leghorns can fly, but not so much that I think they'd try for a 6 foot fence. I didn't plan to start out with them, but a lady I knew was moving and didn't want to truck them half way across the country. I will say one thing though, they are definitely egg factories.

I commend you on your thoughtful approach to taking on new birds. Too often people make impulse buys and forget the long term commitments to these little beasties. Good on ya!
