bought 10 new pullets saturday 14 weeks old. noticed sunday that 7 out of the 10 have curled toes. what causes this. the farm i got them from buys them as chicks from a hatchery. he gets 100s at a time. he didnt metion the curled toes saturday . he has 200 or so left to sell.

is this caused by the hatchery or the guy i got them from . he bought them as day olds. guess i should call him and ask what happened. will it hurt them to walk .

They were probably hatched that way, and yes they are too old for corrective therapy. They should be fine and lay well for you. The crooked toes may impede their mobility somewhat but not enough to cause any real problems.

I have a hen who has curled toes on one foot. She is about three years old, has gone broody numerous times and is healthy. She does not seem to be in any pain walking around, and free-ranges and roosts with all the others. Doesn't seem to bother her a bit.

more pics of these i got. rhode island reds from mt heathy hatchery.

Not to laugh at the situation at all...I sympathize...

But...that last pic of the girl on the far left with leg upraised is HILARIOUS!! It's like she's saying "see!!! See MY FOOT!" And the others are empathizing...and looking rather concerned...

Glad they are healthy otherwise!
