Hello everyone...this is my first post. I have been reading this post and the forums for a while now trying to prepare myself and my family.
We have 3 chicks arriving at the end of May. 1 EE, 1 Buff Orpington and a Black Australorp. Have the brooder set up for the most part. I am using a plastic storage tote for now but may have to get something bigger before the ladies can be moved outdoors. I have also decided to use a nipple waterer for the chicks when they arrive. After doing a lot of reading and research I think this will be the best setup and the easiest for the kids to help with and not get grossed out
Everyone is looking forward to the arrival of our new pet chicks. So far the names the kids came up with are Chica, Sunshine and Cadbury. This may change once the chicks are here and put their individual personalities on display.
We have 4 children that range in age from 18 to 3 years old. 2 dogs- a pomeranian and a german shepherd. At Christmas we obtained two more furry pets.....gerbils, they provide quite a bit of entertainment as well
I am looking forward to learning more from everyone here and am still working on our coop which will be in our carriage house. Will post pictures at a later date once I am able to and the little ladies arrive.
Take care.
