New 3 chicken owner and one has hurt leg

Mulu52, picked up 3 hens Sun and unfortunately one was chased by our pup. We got her but she may have sprained foot or leg. We can hold her and she'll clasp a finger so don't think it's a break. Suggestions welcome as to how long to leave before taking to a vet?

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your new hens but sorry to hear about the chasing incident with your pup. Dogs do need to watched closely when introducing them to chickens. As your hen is still grasping it does sound more like a sprain. Keeping her somewhere a little smaller so she can rest the leg maybe the best bet for her for now.

Hope she will be back to normal soon. You can see why most chicken folks think dogs and chickens should NEVER meet. The chicken is always the loser. Please watch for signs of infection. Then you may want to visit the vet for the right antibiotic.
