You have found the best group of enablers of the chicken addiction you could ask for

It was my idea to get the chickens but my husband is more addicted then me! Here is his coop he built and Hand painted for the girls.

Quote: I have always kept Black Australorps. (they are Orpingtons as well) and my girls have been just SUPER friendly. I started raising some Barred Rocks just his year and wow, they are just as fun and friendly! They have been lap babies since one week old! Ha! They are all mixed together the Aussies and the Rocks and now I have so much fighting over my lap, it is just crazy! First come first served, but I sometimes I have to make room for some of my older flock favorites. :-)

2 barred rocks
2 buff orphingtons
2 road island
2 New Hampshire
And our newest addition 2 buff brahmas

Also we have 6 Barred rock roosters that we are trying to find homes for, they were sent as "packing peanuts" and are 1 month old

I'm sorry about all those "packing peanuts" cockerels in your shipment. I hate it when hatcheries do that. You have a nice mix of hardy, dependable dual-purpose breeds. The first chickens I ever had (around 50 years ago) were Brahmas and they were gentle giants. I've raised Buff Orpingtons for years (still have some in my flock) and they are wonderful birds; beautiful, friendly and gentle (my granddaughter has made lap pets out of ours), and good layers of large, brown eggs. Good luck with your flock.

Thanks- I learned now do just order a lot of hens- although I feel bad for the roosters! Wouldn't mind them but stupid ordinance- need two acres, only have 1. Eventually we will move and then we can enjoy that beautiful "cock a doodle doo!"
