Well, yesterday afternoon, I got a call from Child Protective Services in Georgia, and it turns out that my 14 year old niece was assaulted by my sister-in-law's 2nd husband. He is not her father. He bruised her ribs and hit her hard enough to give her a concussion. CPS stripped them of their parental rights and put her on a plane. We picked her up at the airport last night.

Come to find out this has been going on for MONTHS and her Mom did nothing to stop it. Poor little girl is a nervous wreck and has been crying all day.

Her mother is getting the paperwork together through their attorney to grant us total custody with no visitation. They have to sign away all parental rights to avoid prosecution. The state of Georgia is giving them two weeks to get the paperwork to us.

So, chaos ensues, you know? Please say a prayer for this little girl and a quick prayer for me, LOL, so I can have the strength and knowledge to guide her through and hopefully get her straightened out.

Thanks-
Jess

Oh Jess......I am SO glad she has you to come home to!! That poor child. And such a tender age as well. You have MY prayers,. and I am sure many others. I hope those SOB's ROT IN HEL*!!

God bless you for taking her in - it takes a special person to be a safe haven for a child who has experience the abuse you describe, plus who knows what else that hasn't come out yet.

I'll keep your family in my prayers. I hope she makes a good transition and is soon on the way to healing in your home.

Yikes!!
It would've been all I could've done not to get on plane and blast the heck out of the pair of them!!!
thanks so much for taking your niece in...10,000 Good Karma points for you.

Thanks all.

I took her school shopping today. YIKES!! Teenagers are expensive. She has never had new clothes. Her mother would only shop from Goodwill for her, this includes panties and bras and socks. She didn't even know what size she wore. She is so thin, at 14 she's wearing 10-12 from the little girl's section. The lady at the store said if I could find a store that carries the size, it's a size 0. ZERO!!!!!!

You move your hands too quick and she flinches. I just want to hug her, but she's not used to being hugged, so it makes her uncomfortable. We got a long road ahead.

She LOVES the chickens, though.

I gave her a bag of Kix cereal and told her to go play with the chickens, and here came the girls running. She held each one and snuggled them. It was the first time we saw her smile.

Anyway - thanks for the prayers.

That is so sad, I wish they would get prosecuted - is he at least getting SOME time in jail? Its hard to believe a mother would allow that to happen at all. My husband wouldn't dare raise his hand!

Animals have a wonderful way of helping children cope and heal..... I bet she'll be out with the chickens often!

Wow, she is tiny. My almost 11 yr old is wearing a size 12-14 in the girls clothes and she is small and thin for her age.

I'm sure she really appreciates having someone to take her shopping for NEW things.

And the animals I'm sure will be great therapy for her!

I am really happy for her that she is in a better situation now!

Good luck! I hope the no good brother-in-law never reappears in her life, but you know how it is. Cosa mala, nuca muere.
