New Adventure

Hello Everyone!!

I am (obviously) new here and decided to join because so many Pinterest posts lead me back here!! My little family is starting out on a new duckling adventure so I have been trying to research to get prepared.

Our 4 Cayuga ducklings should be hatching today and shipping out tomorrow! I’m so excited!

If anyone has tips and/or advice for me on this Cayuga duck journey, I’d love to hear it. Also looking for brooder setups and housing setups! I live in northern Indiana so it gets pretty cold in the winter and Spring is (hopefully) staying this time and not teasing us again.

Hello and welcome to BYC!!
Nice to see another fellow Duck lover takeing over BYC to turn it into BYD!!
Tkaing care of ducklings can be fun and messy! Ducklings need to be able to submerge their bills to clean out their nostrils, but not be able to get into the water. A simple water'er from TSC ($5.99) like this one will do:

And a simple feeder from TSC ($11.99) will do for the feeding.

Then there is the feed! I feed mine Purina Flock Raiser Crumbles Premium Poultry Feed. Also found at TSC. You can feed your duckling any type of chick starter you want, just make sure it's not medicated!

Then lastly there is the brooder! A kiddie pool will boxes taped around it does great! Then as they get older, upgrade the boxes to wire mesh! Makes for fast and easy cleaning!

Now for the bedding and heat source! TSC also sell cheap Pine Shaving for $5.99
Never use Cedar Shavings. I've never used it, but others have said it causes respiratory problems. I always use Pine Shavings!

Heating Time!! Now finally it's the heating Source! I suggest using a heat matt or a heated blanket to create a mama hen. Here is a awesome link to help you better under stand it. LINK
