Poor Mary is so sick and no DVMs local treat turkeys. Need to know IM dose for Doxycycline, because I have it and Mary has not eaten since Monday. The DVM gave her Baytril, but hasn’t helped. A DVM from PA looked at her bright green runny pooh and said could be salmonella, but she’s an “only bird.”

I don’t think I could dose it in water no more than she’s drinking. She acts like she’s got a migraine headache and hasn’t gotten off this nest on the porch or eaten anything. Poor baby. This is today’s pooh

And welcome to BYC. I suggested that your thread be moved to the ER forum for the best advice.

Good luck

Welcome to BYC, sorry your turkey is so sick. :hugs Can you call the DVM that saw her and ask for some metronidazole? Is taking her back to the vet an option? if it is, ask the vet if they can give her some subcutaneous fluids and show you how to tube feed.

How much Baytril did they have you give her? And did you give it orally or by injection?

No. He doesn’t see her, just does fecals and things. I’m still waiting on him to call back from first thing this morning w these same photos.

He gave her three days of Baytril (Enroflaxin 100 mg). And probably will not call me back today.

I have 100 mg Doxycycline cpasules though. Thinking of giving it in yogurt.

An DVM that stays current on birds, bc raised w extoics texted me about Oxytet and TSC has some. She says more than likely salmonella, bc turkeys usually don’t get the Ptsossis. She said yogurt is good and I think yesterday’s came out in her pooh, finally

She asked me about this too and I only have gel myself from a coppeehead bite.

I’m still waiting on the local DVM to call me back.

The DVM from PA, raised w exotics says recommended a more aggressive worming schedule than I’ve done in the past also w Fenbendazole, Corid and purantel. I thought I over wormed her. She’s always got one super, runny, smelly pooh daily. I do fecals and use the natural stuff too.

My local vets do not treat birds or turkeys. He just wants pooh and trusts me w details. Except laughed at me on her temp. I stopped at 102.9. Horses are much lower than birds. I triage and pretty much a vet tech w horses forever. Very unknowledgeable about birds.

She is drinking A LOT of water! About 7 cups already and wanting more already

I did give her another syringe of yogurt w 10p mg of Doxycycline for now. She hates it, but realizes it’s not as bad as wormer. It’s strawberry/banana. Vet from PA said yogurt was a good thing.

Yesterday, I had tried applesauce w pumpkin, because I was thinking maybe she had an impaction from her beloved black sunflower seeds. She had been tossing the songbird seed aside along with the 28 percent Sporting bird crumble to get to it. Sunflower seeds are only a once a day, small treat w her favorite turkey treat “canned corn.”

Should say 100 mg capsule dumped in yogurt. Unless someone tells me to, might hold off on the Baytril tonight.

Was just giving it, because the neighbor’s new puppy had pounced on her in front of me and gotten a few blood feathers two times. Don’t know if it had pounced earlier in the days before either. She used to hang out with him and in those woods and I had gone looking for her. She was way down there not wanting to come to me scared of the brat puppy, do thinking it wasn’t the first time.
