I was wondering if it's too late in the year for me to get started raising chickens. The coop and run is not quite finished late take me another couple weeks or so because of my work schedule so I was just wondering

Once your coop and run are finished, you may be able to get started pullets or laying hens and they could go right outside without the necessity of raising baby chicks. They would have time to get used to your weather changes before winter. If you have a mild climate you could probably do okay with chicks.

Hi, welcome to BYC!

If you want to start with chicks, check out this post by one of our members, @Blooie :

Using the heating pad in the brooder, some people have raised chicks even in very cold weather. Certainly an option to think about.

Good luck to you, thanks for joining us!
Thanks, NFC! Yep, I've raised chicks when the temps were in the teens and 20s - outside in the run! So have lots of other people. Here's another link that might help.

(Hey, yay! The linking worked! With Windows 10 and Edge for a browser I haven't been able to do that....switched to Google Chrome for a browser and it's all back!)

Welcome to BYC ..... where people are curious and the chickens are grateful!

Hey Blooie, I'll do your PR work for you anytime, lol.
