new and need help

. I'm sure you'll love being a chicken keeper!

I do really enjoy watching these chickens when they come to visit sometimes so rehoming them with me seems right. Maybe the transition will be easier for them. Any recommendations on how to round this little flock up would be helpful. Thanked again.
If you're talking rounding them up to get to your YOUR place permanently, assuming they're a bit on the wild side, I'd nab them when they're roosting at night, stick them wherever you plan on keeping them, and then keep them contained for a few days so that they learn this is their new home. During those few days of containment, sit with them, talk to them, and most importantly, offer them TREATS so that they associate you with food and good times

Good luck and have fun with your new venture into chickens!

Thank you to all the wonderful wishers out there who have said hello. This seems to be a really great site. I wanted to update you on the chickens. I have included a pic from earlier today. I took some scraps over to them and they were thrilled to get them. They were also very excited to have some water to drink as well. Some of them even got in the tub for a bath! So good news is they weren't too afraid of me or my dog. We all just sat in the grass and watched each other. They studied me as much as I studied them. I think I am really gonna enjoy this chicken keeping thing. The fresh eggs are just a bonus to the fun of waching these critters. Should I start posting in a different forum if I want to keep updates coming?

Oh they are pretty!! Looks like they were loving their scraps, too. You can post anything you want in any of the forums. If you post a lot of pics make sure to put "pic heavy" in the title of whatever thread you start. People will post on any and all threads, not just the newbies.

If you post a thread and don't get replies right away, don't get discouraged!! It's kinda slow in various parts of the day. Be sure to explore the entire site. There are a lot of great folks on here and they have a lot of great information and wisdom. As for me, I'm new to this whole chicken raising thing so I don't know too much..

Sooo...update on the chickens. Lost one last night to a predator. Bummer and she was a gorgeous hen. On the bright side found one hen with at least 2 chicks hiding in the tall weeds. Moving day for all tomorrow. Any ideas for those babies? Do I need to separate the hen with her chicks? Or can all go together? I wasn't prepared for babies but oh they are so cute! Another question- can u clip wing tips to discourage fly aways like u can with pet birds? Is it safe? Is it cruel even if they are penned and only allowed out supervised? Hope I do the right thing by these guys because they deserve so much better than what they have now. Wish me luck.

sorry about the hen! As for the babies, I'd leave them with their momma. As for the wings clipping..I have no idea. I don't know anything about clipping wings. My mother asked me if I was going to clip my chickas wings and I told her no, that's why I put up wire over the top of their pen. I'd be afraid I'd hurt them. When my DD was a baby, I clipped her fingernails and accidentally cut one too short. It bled and bled. I cried and cried, cause she was crying and crying..

So now, I don't cut anything on any animals or humans!
