Greetings!

I'm here to learn more about the chicken keeping experience (what's typical, what's challenging) before making commitments. Some info about me: she/her, queer. I own a house with my spouse on a small urban lot with a garage and a fenced back yard at my disposal, and it's been a dream of mine to steward a flock. I've had dogs/cats as pets, and would likely approach laying hens as pets first and layers second. The thing that intimidates me the most about keeping chickens is how little I know about chicken requirements... They are living things dependent on us to be effective keepers (oof, the pressure!). So here I go!

Welcome to the BYC! Yes, it can be rather intimidating. As you said they're depending on you! Good thing is, they're extremely beginner friendly animals and you've joined a wonderful community to help answer any questions you may have. Just a cautionary warning for beginner chicken keeping; you may start with 2 or 3 and find yourself with a huge coop and 15 chooks by the end of the year!
