Hello Byc'ers,

I'm new to byc and just wanted to say hello to everybody. Am from the sierra foothills and have found a new obsession/hobby in raising chickens.

The flock consists of 2 egyptian fayoumis, 2 golden laced wyans, 2 silver laced wyans, 2 EE's, 2 polish(1 buff & 1 black/white crested), 3 lakenvelders, 2 australorps, 1 dominique, 6 silkies, and 2 copper marans. The majority of the flock are ladies with the exception of 4 silkies which were straight runs and 1 copper maran. Only the copper maran is laying eggs atm since she and the roo are 6 weeks older then the rest of the flock. They were introduced to the flock only about a week ago and the bcm hen has some serious attitude! None of the other little guys want to be within a stink eye shot of her. I've read here that it can take up to 2 weeks before they warm up to each other. Just wanted to make the introduction and hope to be talking with some of you here in the future.

Welcome from the coast. I love my hens but I'm not at all good about tolerating the "pecking order". After two years of watching one little GLW bully the others, I got her a new home. I think it is a matter of how much we can take of the abuse that goes on. I know it is "nature" but I enjoy peace in my garden, not chaos! Good luck and
