New and thinking about having Chickens

I live in Toledo Ohio and have been looking into having some chickens in my back yard but now sure if I can so doing research to figure out if I can and not able to find to much. Figured if I come on here I might be able to be directed into the right direction to find out if I can have some. We are a family of 9 and trying to be a more self sustaining family and every little bit helps as well as shows my children how to truely take care of them selves and animals. I live on a little less that an acre with a 50X30 foot garden.
