We had more than 50 chickens when I was a kid. I and the neighbor friends and my older brother would have our annual egg festival, demonstrating how to cook all varieties and ways of eggs; flipping an egg over in the air without a spatula was extra points.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
18 hens:
5 four year olds
5 three

(3) What breeds do you have?
We have just regular breads, from white leghorn to polish and everything in the middle.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I know some will frown at us for this, but we don't like to waste table scrapes and see that feeding our chickens left overs, old bread, veggies, etc, converts the otherwise wasted food back into usable food. We love them as pets as well. We have a few buyers of our eggs. We almost give them away at $2/doz if they bring their own cartons.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
My favorite hobbies are:
1. Playing the piano, mostly learning. I started 12 years ago as an adult. It is tough learning at an older age.
2. Fixing up things around the house and making the best out of what we have.
3. Growing a garden and preserving or store what we grow.
