New at raising chicks and I have a couple of questions

Yes I have a plastic water container. I found the raw ACV this weekend. Should I give it to my new chicks immediately? They are arriving in two days!

No. Your chicks don't need an antibacterial in their water organic or not. They will need help overcoming shipping stress. This is done by providing vitamins-electrolytes in the water. The brooder should be warmed by the lamp before chicks arrive. Place starter/grower feed in a paper plate so they can easily find it. You should have done all the research before ordering chicks so you have everything you need. Here's some information you should read:

If you want to avoid pasting. Use 1/8 tsp of Probios soluble powder in a quart waterer with the vitamin electrolytes for the first 3 days. Do not give yogurt, ACV, or DE.

Yes I have done a lot of reading on this website and I'm basically all ready. My brooder is ready in the garage with heat lamp, food, pine shavings. I have raw ACV but will hold off on that. Thanks for the link Michael Apple.

I have 5wk old chicks. I gave them a chic electrolyte mix in their water at first. Then I started on the ACV... I have not done it daily ... but try to do it 2-3x a week. I also am using the DE powder in their coop now that they are out of the brooder and we are using the deep litter method. I am very pleased that so far the coop isn't stinky at all.

I use DE in my coops too. When people come over and see all of the birds we have they are surprised that they don't smell. Many have been told chickens are stinky so they are surprised when they don't.

My babies have arrived! Yesterday one day old. They are eating and drinking well. Came running when I tapped my finger on dish and waterer. They caught right on.

Now they are in a big ball sleeping under heat lamp. So cute. I was up 3 times in the night checking on them. They are in our attached garage. I need a baby monitor! ! Lol.

DE works great in the dusting boxes and sprinkled in the nesting boxes. The crystals that make up the earth are sharp and will cut the exoskeletons of the mites, fleas, whatever. As long as it stays dry. Inside a bird...I haven't seen anything to make me think it would work for removing worms. Possible, but not as well as something like Safeguard. DE isn't a cure, it's a prevention and if used in the right way can help keep mites and lice away.
