Hi everyone! Newbie chicken owner (as of April 2017) here and just posting my information for all to see :) Right now I only have 4 chickens. Had 5 but my beautiful buff orpington died suddenly :( I have 1 of each: Light Brahma (so gentle), Australorp, Barred Rock and my favorite (shhhh) White Silkie.

By day I am a high school teacher and at home I have 2 dogs, a cat, two human kids (10 and 13) and a hubby who is quite tolerant of my new hobby.

I'm hoping to add 2 more chickens to my flock in the spring and am hoping to find good advice on this site! Seems there isn't much that isn't addressed!!! So much to learn!

Hi Amy and welcome to BYC

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

RE: New at this...and addicted!
You don't need the Betty Ford Clinic, you need a double shot of BYC! A little "hair of the dog" will take the edge off.

Use "our" 6 STEP PROGRAM:
  1. Log onto BYC
  2. Search the forums & articles written by many of our fine members.
  3. Add any input such as Likes, points, counterpoints or personal experiences.
  4. Show off your critters and accomplishments proudly and unsparingly.
  5. Create a "My Coop" page so people can enjoy the fruits of your labor.
  6. Grow & Bond with our Community. There are thousands of wonderful people and tons of helpful/knowledgeable members who are here at your disposal in your time of need in a crisis as well.
After you get settled in, you will find you have made a wise decision to join Backyard Chickens. Welcome to the Site! Enjoy!
