Found this lil girl/guy in a parking lot abandoned, it's brother or sister was dead next to her in the snow :( I had to take her home. I have never had chickens before but now my daughter is in love and my husband can build a coop so I guess I'm a chicken owner now, but I don't know anything about chickens so help!!!! I also don't have any idea what kind of chicken she/he is and idk if it's male or female so help please!

Hi there,
frow.gif
and welcome to BYC!

Aww...poor little guy. How sad is that. But at least you have a kind heart. :) You might start here in the learning center of BYC for some tips and pointers on how to keep chickens...

https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

As for identification, check out the what breed and gender section of BYC...

Keep this one warm under a heat lamp. He looks like he is maybe 2 weeks old so start him around 90 degrees and lower the heat 5 degrees each week for 6 weeks.

Take good care of the little guy. And enjoy BYC!

Hello from Oregon & welcome to BYC. Congrats on your new little fluffbutt & thank you for taking it in. Agree with above. They are also flock animals so it needs buddies. Try & get as close to same age/size. I did a rescue on an abandoned chick about 8 months ago. I already owned chickens but was NOT looking to ad to the flock at the time - well mother nature had another plan :).
this was the chick at rescue

chick with buddies

turned out to be a beautiful hen :)

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! TwoCrows gave you good advice, good luck with the little chick, how nice of you to rescue him.

How nice of your to rescue the chick.

It's nauseating that people can just dump/throw out live animals and walk away with no pangs of conscience whatsoever. Well they do it to humans too.

Good grief.
