my lil' square of green
Well, after a long time coming, I finally have my new chickies!!
smile.png
I have been reading up and have helped my dad with his-so I think we are ready

any help in breeds would be great, I 'think' I know what they are
big_smile.png

they were also straight run as well....so no clue as to who's a roo, but after a week of watching-I have my speculations!

this is from last sat-I will try and post a more current pic to compare to
Pearle, Ida Mae, and Charleene are all twice as big now. chipmunk, frederick and chester...who is spraddled (his third day in his rubberband-bandaid hobble although in this picture he stood up) are all still small. chester is actually the same size as the day we brought him home. his little legs just are not strong and they just go all over the place. he is not doing to well
sad.png
but he is a fighter!

charlene is a really pretty redish color, frederick has blackish/greenish feet, ida mae and pearle have really BIG feet
hmm.png
hopefully just cause they are so much bigger than the rest

Where did you get your chicks from? A hatchery or a feed store? I can't be certain of the breeds you have. Did you get Bantams or Standards? Fredrick looks like he could be a Silver Laced Wyandotte. Charleene looks like maybe she could be a Welsummer. If you can get some better, closer pics of the individual birds, their combs, and their legs, I'm sure someone here could give you a better idea of what you have there. They sure are cute though! Congrats on your new babies!

Here are my updated pics...they have all started getting lil feathers now
smile.png

I got them the friday before easter from TSC (who were less than knowledgable at this particular store) and were in a bin labeled "straight run pullets"
roll.png
I had asked the chick employee what breed they were and he kept repeating "straig run" ??? and to top it off everyone was holding and looking and putting back in all the wrong bins...oh well...

they all seem to have very smooth flat combs and no pinky colors yet (except for Mabel-who I was assured was a pullet ??

)

oh and they "boy" names are not becasue we know they are boys-we have no cue. they just seem to fit them at naming time!

frederick is still pretty little-even though he/she is trying to be big in this picture

chipmunk is still little too

these are my new buff orpington chicks (now these i know are pullets-my local real feed store had them ordered and the guys were marked with blue) but as you can see poor little spraddle chester is still so tiny. he is 2 weeks old in this pic-not much bigger than the new gals.
