New Babies

Okay I have a series of questions here...

Okay first off, one of my farming friends has a silkie or two that she is going to be bringing over next week for my daughter, I'm not sure of their age, she got them from Tractor Supply around Easter Time. Should I keep them inside for a while?

Also a another guy i'm buying some chicks from has some bigger ones and then he said he will have some hatch in a week or so. Do I put the bigger ones in a seperate container than the smaller ones? Will they hurt each other?

And what could I use to put the chicks in?

What do I put in the bottom of the container I keep them in?

And how long do I keep a warming light on them?

How long do you all keep your babies inside before putting them outside, I'm kinda freaking out about putting them outside because we have no other chickens out there and I don't want them out there by themselves.

Sorry for so many questions, I just want to make sure to do everything right for the babies and chickies.

Do you have other chickens now? If so, any new birds you get need to seperated from them for a minimum of 30 days. This is to check for illnesses. If the Silkies are about 4 weeks old, yes they need to be inside with a heat lamp until they are fully feathered. You won;t have an issue with this because Silkies steal your soul and you will have no choice but to do their bidding.

You can keep any chicks in a box, rubbermaid container, cage, etc., as long as they have a heat lamp. I use pine shavings for the bottom of the brooder - cheap and keeps the stink down.

If the older chicks are way bigger, I would seperate them. I mixed mine for a while but the bigger ones started running over them so before someone was killed I seperated them. Not to mention even same size chicks can kill each other by accident that happened to 1 of my silver campines a yesterday
