Hi, I have just hatched out 4 coturnix quail, three are doing great, one- the last one to come out of his egg, is weak so I don't know if he will make it or not.
They are the cutest little things ever! Three hatched this morning at 7 to 9am, and the last one around 1pm. I put them in the brooder this evening at 9 pm. They are so active! One even caught and ate a tiny moth already! They pigged out on their fermented food and ground mealworms and are drinking good. The last to hatch hasn't drunk on its own but I've made it drink some water with a tiny bit of molasses, honey and acv in it, since that's what I always give weak baby chickens. A little while ago I made him eat a tiny bit of egg yolk too. I will check them every few hours and make sure the weakling drinks. If he makes it.
I'm so excited to have quails for the first time! :)
Can any one tell me what color type these little guys are? Looks like I have two separate color types right? I'm thinking the dark are pharaoh and the light are golden manchurian... I have zero quail experience though.

So cute! I hope the little guy makes it! I think you are correct about your colour guesses :)

Very cute. I don't give my birds access to sand until the second week because I worry about them swallowing it instead of feed. But I'm using crumble so your little ones seem to be able to work it out.

I wanted them to eat it, I always give it to my chicken chicks from day 1 too, I wasn't sure with the quail but they seem to be doing great. Peck at the sand some but mostly eating food, which is half the floor... They ate some more egg yolk just now and wow are they active! The 4th one is still hanging on, I'm not sure if he's eaten or drunk on his own yet, but I've been waking up and dipping his beak once an hour and he is more active than last night.
I never get to sleep when I have new chicks because I'm worried they will get too hot or something!
I'm tentatively hoping the weak one will make it. And even if he doest I'm thrilled just to have 3 healthy ones :)

It's not unusual to have the odd one that doesn't make it and that's just the way it is with quail. But they sure are adorable babies - they are my favourites. And they are so sweet and cuddly (unlike Button quail who want nothing to do with you by around 4 days old and freak out if you have to do anything in the brooder).

The fermented feed will help reduce their smell so that's a good move. Enjoy them and thanks for sharing. :love

Here is a short video I took of the adorable 3 babies, they stopped eating the fermented food and prefer the ground up dry, maybe because I have crushed meal worms in it...
I have been sick so was just feeding 24 percent chick starter, is the medicated feed truly important for quail? I have read that it is, so am picking some up today finally.

Usually people recomend NOT to give medicated feed to quail, so your chick starter should be just fine. If you can get something with more protein, that might be even better.

I don’t know of anyone here that recommends medicated for quail. They don’t seem as susceptible to illness as poultry.
Your chicks are adorable :love

thanks I just love them!
I was under the impression they were extra prone to cocci, never had them before so it's all new, thanks for the fast responses from both of you, before I headed to the store! I'm going to look for game bird feed but the only one at tractor supply is medicated, I will call some local feed stores though.
Edit to add about protein,
That's why I have been putting mealworms n their food when I crush it, and giving them egg yolk too, they aren't very interested in the egg yolks though...
