New baby runner ducks

I am so happy for this runner, mama duck. This was her 2nd try and low and behold we have 2 new ones and 1 egg remains. We actually snuck another of my duck eggs under her, and that is the darker baby. I almost cried, since I lost her mama a week ago, right after her 1 year birthday to a predator. She was half Rowan and half runner.

What cuties congratulations! I'm sorry about your loss, but I'm happy that her baby hatched and is thriving!

The only problem is we free range. Mama picked the first bin and this morning the 1st baby duck was outside wondering around. I caught it and popped it back in the nest, without mama eating my face off luckily. So... should we take the babies and pin them up and raise til their bigger or try and move mama, who is mean as a snake to a more secure place. Darn it!! I just didn’t want to take her babies from her.

You need to put mama and ducklings in a safe place or she may lose her ducklings. Way too many predators love eating ducklings and duck.
