Good Morning all,

Yesterday I received my Dorking chicks (in the mail). Yea!!! One has what I guess to be part of the umbilical cord still attached. The chick seemed to be sleeping excessively and wouldn't really wake up when stepped on so I removed it to a smaller box. That is when I noticed the area. I at first thought it was pasty butt but while trying to remedy that I realized my anatomy mistake :). The chick is doing much better this morning but when I put it back with the others, alot of them began pecking at the area. I put the chick back in it's private condo.............is this something to worry about or will it just fall off or is the pecking just the way it's taken care of????

Thanks for your time

If it's the umbilical cord, that should be dried up, and you could just nip that off with some scissors. Usually, one extra day in the incubator, and that takes care of itself. Since your chicks were shipped, then I would help that along.
