Hi all. Looking for advice. Little one was born about 5 hours ago and he had some yolk sack attached to him. Thst fell off, but he still had about an inch long umbillical cord attached to him. Ive had him sitting in a teacup with a damp paper towel inside the incubator and it hasnt made any progress. Can i tie it off with some unwaxed floss and put him in with the rest of the chicks?
I want to get him out of there because one of them pooped and i dont want him to getsick.-its starting to get stinky.
Thanks!

He still looks wet. I'd put him back in there without additional moisture until he's fluffy and that should dry up.

Hes all good now 😊
Just had to stuff intestines back into one of its hatchmates though 😞 i dont get it! All the lighter ones have had issues with their umbillicus!
What are the odd that this little one will make it? I cleaned it good woth triodine, used surgi-lube and pushed it back in with a triodine soaked qtip, then sealed it with skin glue

Wow, how's it doing? Sounds to me like it should be okay.

Odd you had more than one, and odder yet it's by color. I'd really be sure your incubator is fully sterilized before hatching the next batch. It could be genetic as well.

Do you have a thermometer/hygrometer to double check the temp of the incubator? Most times those are off. I own four incubators, three being Brinsea, and only three are correct, and only one of that brand is right. Temp being off can cause issues as well.

Ugh i didnt know that. Ill get one before the next time. We have a farm innovators one
